I wonder why they had Finn talking in an American accent and not Rey? She might be related to Obi wan as that classic English voice was a definite pointer toward something, Boyega has the capability to speak both Yank and Brit well enough
He mentioned something about that in an interview I heard, along the lines of they'd tried it with an English accent but Abrams didn't think it worked with the character

Think it would be a bit of a cop out though. Read a theory somewhere that the reason Rey was so good with the saber was because she had been previously trained by Luke. Who they also reckon will be her father. Had too many family connections, really didn't think Kylo being Han's son was necessary. Still though, very good reboot and thoroughly enjoyable.

Oh aye, as Clint quoted from my older post I was expecting typical Hollywood crap, but hopefully looks like I was wrong. I'll be happy if, as you say, the film has that special Star Wars feel. From the very little I've seen from Boyega and Ridley it looks like they've injected some life into characterisation which we never got in the prequel trilogy.
that's true. luke and lea didn't really carry much enthusiasm as characters for me but I loved reys character, and the way she is portrayed in the film. boyega is a good actor as well, as interesting as Ford is in my opinion. as I said before its a lot to do with the characters that I'm looking forward to the next one, and the story generally is great for me.

Kylo Ren seemed rather, erm, familiar but I liked him, other than his propensity to smash up very expensive equipment in petulant fits of pique when the slightest thing went wrong.

I liked Ren's fits of rage....set up that scene where the stormtroppers were about to walk by him, heard him going mental and turned around & walked away again...laughed my ass off....

Rey is lukes daughter

Not so sure about that...the flashbacks from when she touches the lightsaber, coupled with the comments to her from Maz Kanata about waiting for people that aren't going to come back, have me confused. Someone, might've been Han, also mentions Luke went off to train Jedi Knights but one of them went rogue or something so Luke packed it in. Maybe that's already been explained or I missed some other comment that explains who that was, but that could be one of her parents.

Finally seen it. Great film all around. The middle section was a bit slow, but they had to explain it all somehow. Be interesting how it goes forward now.

The one criticism I do have is how Rey managed to hold her own and almost defeat Kylo Ren who is well-seasoned with the lightsaber - considering it was her first time using it.

Yeah I know they showed how Ren had been injured by Chewie, but I didn't like that saber fight scene either....they had developed Kylo Ren well throughout the movie (and killing Solo made him the ultimate star wars bad guy), but then this scene just made him look weak....
Didn't like how the wrote Solo's death overall.....Would have preferred if Kylo Ren was beating Rey in the saber fight, and Solo sacrificed himself to save Rey....Ren still kills Solo, looks a lot more bad ass, and then Rey goes off to find Luke to be trained so she can avenge Solo's death...
