Star Wars - Episode VII

That's great! If it got that feel right then that's half the battle. The same director utterly failed in that regard for his Star Trek efforts but maybe his talents are just more suited to the bombast of Star Wars.
haha come back to me after you go the cinema then I have a few thoughts on the director which is a first for me. But it is a star wars film and story wise I enjoyed it so yeah, it's worth going to see.

I think a lot of criticism you get of it is from people expecting either a giant blockbuster film or hardcore star wars fans who have to explore every detail. From your average film goer you get exactly what you want from it, and the new director has a lot to go with for the next film.

Oh aye, as Clint quoted from my older post I was expecting typical Hollywood crap, but hopefully looks like I was wrong. I'll be happy if, as you say, the film has that special Star Wars feel. From the very little I've seen from Boyega and Ridley it looks like they've injected some life into characterisation which we never got in the prequel trilogy.

Finally seen it. Great film all around. The middle section was a bit slow, but they had to explain it all somehow. Be interesting how it goes forward now.

The one criticism I do have is how Rey managed to hold her own and almost defeat Kylo Ren who is well-seasoned with the lightsaber - considering it was her first time using it.

cheers, i'll click your spoiler tab after seeing the fillem. think i've already accidentally seen mention of two massive spoilers already, i guess it's unavoidable if perusing Star Wars stuff on the interwebs.

He was injured remember

Nothing massively revealing in this post but I felt discretion to be the better part of valour:

I thought it was miles better than the prequals. Atmospheric, retro steampunk feel to it, visually gasp-inducing. The new droid was funny and likeable. Wasn't sure about Daisy Ridley at first with her cut-glass English public school accent but she grew on me. The last scene had me grinning and moisten-eyed at the same time. Kylo Ren seemed rather, erm, familiar but I liked him, other than his propensity to smash up very expensive equipment in petulant fits of pique when the slightest thing went wrong. Other than that, my only criticism is that, w/o wishing to give too much away, it is essentially a reboot of the original film but if you can get over that, God it's ace fun.
Remember Alec Guinesses voice?

hahaha...agreed! just found this today and had it playing (loud) here in the office about 20 minutes ago, what a chorus! really earwormy. deffo gonna get another play later.

also, check out the brilliant rap at the beginning of the Empire vid:

I wonder why they had Finn talking in an American accent and not Rey? She might be related to Obi wan as that classic English voice was a definite pointer toward something, Boyega has the capability to speak both Yank and Brit well enough
