Player Valuation: £40m
That was covered by the second part of my post. You don't make 8 changes to a side as it disrupts any momentum a winning side has.
If players need minutes, pick the three most important ones and bring them in. Then, when your almost full strength side has the game under control, bring another three on as subs.
Team selection and substitutions cost us yesterday, as much as poor performances.
Apologies, perhaps ive not presented my point properly.
With the side of the squad as it is, we need everyone to be match-fit and motivated as much as possible. The players train the same as the first 11, the same style, formations etc.
I cant think of another opportunity upcoming where we have the opportunity to maximise a large number of players' fitness.
The alternative is, as you say, just bring in 2 or 3 players, which gives us a better chance of winning THIS game. However, the side of the coin is that you have 5 or 6 players who continue to be unfit, unmotivated and sitting on the bench or worse, not in the squad whatsoever. This could impact the squad as a whole if disharmony spreads.
This was a perfect opportunity to give people a chance to impress, gain fitness and show themselves worthy. From the game last night, I cant think of one player I wouldnt want competing for a first team place.
The players messed up last night for me, not the manager who rightfully gave INTERNATIONAL players the chance to impress.
