Right ok i have a question. This dof baffles me a bit. I see lots of dof who i dont recognise as ever played the game, or if did at a very low level. Why are they bringing players into a club. When did dof creep into the game as the done thing?
Unknown scouts tipping off the manager about players he might want to look at. What was wrong with that. Did alex ferguson work under a dof? Genuine query.
The games different now

Plus Ferguson had Edwards, who like Dein at Arsenal understood football

I really don’t know much about him but it seems to me any DoF at any club is on a bit of a hiding to nothing when it comes to fan opinion. The article states he delivered Ndombele and Lo Celso for Poch and multiple players requested by Mourinho.

I think he’d have a fair argument that he’s delivered successfully in terms of what he was asked to do, and that the subsequent success or failure of those signings isn’t on him. But fan opinion rarely works like that.

Isnt it just. We had 3 years of marcel brands and right up to when he left people were still asking what he actualy did. Was he responsible for players on the pitch or wasnt he. Did he have final say on recruitment....
Maybe it was Everton. But it created more confusion here than anything.

I find it hard to tell with Spurs tbh as their deals alway seem chaotic. Spunds like he had a few big deals done @Yid4life has posted for quality players only for Levy to be Levy and try to get a better deal. I get not vastly overpaying but he seens extreme sometimes.

This fella also signed Ndomele and Lo Celso though - but supposedly they were for Poch.

I think a lot of Spurs good and bad or lack of deals all involve Levy's idea of worth as he done recently with Porto

I think whoever the next DoF is, the club need to give a bit of clarity about the roles involve because that seemed to be one of the biggest problems

I watched Dan Ashworth do an interview on BT Sport and he articulated brilliantly what his responsibilities were (which, I was surprised, do not involve choosing the manager at all - instead that's the owner/board)
