Steven Naismith

This is what Naismith does, he's badly turd for months, then has a good game, then goes back to being turd.

I'm not knocking the fella, he was immense yesterday, if he could do 50% of what he did yesterday on a semi regular basis he'd be worth £25m, but we all know he can't.

He has brilliant character, workrate and has a finish in him.

A strong managerial decision next week is what I'll look for. Back on the bench again and rely on Lukaku linking with Kone and Barkley and Deulofeu away at Swansea. We can cane them at their place. They dont sit back in home games.

It would be shocking management not to start him. Would send out completely the wrong message in terms of competition for places.

Drop a player after a performance like that, and they'll soon start wondering if it's worth fighting for a place.

The reverse is true: he's not started him all season and we've done well. If after one performance (when he came off the bench let's not forget) he starts him, it looks weak, unprincipled and opportunistic.

He needs dropping to the bench to avoid that charge. It's what any top manager would do.

Completely disagree. Del and Kev haven't had much of a sniff either this season, but I doubt you'd be saying this stuff if they come on and had that impact yesterday.

He's a far better player than some of the noddys on here give him credit for. He took over the Osman boo boy mantle.

Im no fan of him mate, not going to be a hypocrite and say i am, for the system martinez strives to play he is all wrong, then again so are a few other players as well, he does bring 100% every time he plays though which certainly some more talented skill wise players deffo dont.

Until we are at the point that we bring in 2-3 players with the technical and consistancy then he will have his role though, he does have a better impact as a sub than a starter too which loads of players dont

Also looked knackered after every run. he got away with that level of fitness against Barnsley, the prem is not so forgiving.

Same Deulofeu who in his next match played a MoM performance for the Spain under 21's and set up and scored a goal in the last 5 minutes of the game, with a lot of quality players on the field for Spain in the game, can't use an excuse for one player when you've stated that if a player plays that well as a sub they deserve to start mate, otherwise that would sow discord in the squad as it'd be why him not me thinking

We'll have to agree to disagree. I think a viewpoint of 'you can't/shouldn't be starting unfit players in the prem.' is a perfectly valid point. I'm sure he'd have featured more in the league if his fitness levels were higher. I'm sure Del knows this.

Mate one of the best managers in the history of the game used a player who was below the level of the starters but who often had a knack of coming off the bench and scoring, he didn't suddenly alter his thinking or change the players role after he did it a couple of times, all it did was reinforce that his thinking about his role at the team was a crorect one, Ferguson and Solskaer. Can't think of many better examples of that, or do you seriously think that we should line up next week against a completely different team Tactically and personnel wise than Chelsea with the exact same formation to accommodate Naismith? or are you advocating him playing on the wing or dropping Barkley to play him off Lukaku?

If it was a typical cameo from the bench, I'd be more inclined to agree with you. Adding in stoppage time though, he was near enough on the pitch for 90 minutes. I just think he deserves a chance to build on that performance.

There will be no tantrums or criticism from me if he's back on the bench, as it's just my opinion. A good result against Swansea and I wouldn't even care if big dunc started.

I would drop lukaku next week, needs a kick in the backside... 2 games in a row where he hasn't put in the effort... naismith needs to be rewarded for yesterday's performance, start him and kone with same system as yesterday, , if it's not working change it up at half time
