Steven Naismith

People don't want him to start because he lacks the flair, and well, in fairness the ability of those players.

But sometimes the passion and 100% commitment Naismith showed on Saturday can over rule ability.

I just can't understand people not grasping that he deserves to start tomorrow.

Do you understand that professional football managers don't pick their teams just based on who deserves it?

Yes mate, do you understand that professional footballer managers do pick players who are in form and that said player just scored a hattrick in a Premier League game against Chelsea?

Yeah. You reckoned you couldn't understand why people didn't think he deserved to start tomorrow.

Seemes to me most people understand that he might deserve to start, just that they don't think he should due to the numerous other reasons managers pick their team.

Martinez isn't trying to be the players best mate and basing his team selection solely on who deserves it so not to upset anyone.

He might start tomorrow, he might not. Personally i'd rather he didn't but i wouldn't be too bothered if he did.

Every player has a role in the squad, a role that they are best at. If McCarthy scores 2 tomorrow and we win he shouldn't start up front next game should he? He carries on doing what he's best at.

So does Naismith. And for me, thats being a sub apart from a small selection of games where his qualities are most suited : basically working his ares off, hassling defenders non stop and trying to put a better team than us off their game, whilst hopefully finishing any chances he gets.

I don't want Mirallas to start I want Lennon to start since Coleman will likely be out and Lennon provides good protection on the right, as well the fact he'll be a massive threat on the counter.

It's not that Kone is the easy target either, he's done very well and we're all surprised with him but I certainly wouldn't say he's made himself undroppable. He's still a squad player.
I would drop Rom and play naisy and kone.

Always seems to work best against teams without a great deal of pace does Naismith as well, hence his great record against Chelsea who for all their talent aren't the fastest in the world

It's a bit weird in a way.

I think he's just a squad player who should spend most of his time on the bench and covering for other players, apart from against a few of the best teams in the league where he should be a gauranteed starter.

Chelsea, Man City, Man U, liverpool, Arsenal. I'd start him 10 games against those most of the time cause he suits playing against the best teams(and derby games) but wouldn't start him against the other 14 teams.

Some good discussion in this thread. I'm in the 'horses for courses' camp with Naismith. If it was WBA or Reading next game then he absolutely starts, even if we were home to Swansea it could be justifiable but away at Swansea, who will come at us, we need pace.

Kone takes the ball better with his back to goal and also can play others in. naisy seems to be finding space and the net better than Rom at the moment, also wins more with his head.

Fair enough, but noether of them has shown anything in the chances they have had playing up top
