Reminds me of Cahill, works tremendously hard, all over the pitch, wins the ball, starts play etc and can score, but ultimately when the balls pinged to him and everyone runs at a hundred miles an hour, he's a mentally bit behind the game.... Barkley with more energy and less skill.

That being said he often does very good passes, but people just often just ignore this and remember passes which don't come off.

His shooting, is far from his most useful attribute, but is still good enough. its the ability to sure up defence from further up the pitch, and to harass the smaller players with physicality that make him a valuable player. Closing down alongside Lukaku instead letting Lukaku run himself ragged chasing one defender who then passes to the other.. Can't do that when Naismiths gone to the other one which he invariably does, causes panic at the back.

Read a lot of calls for more 'snide' from Everton, Naismith is our man for that as well (or Baryy but Naismith gets less cards as he's better at it), and if we are one down, he's the boy to motivate us as well through sheer work rate and determination.

I like him, he has his faults, but his determination and willingness to run through walls to get the ball is something we often need in games where we have gone flat, or flicks and tricks are not working.

Keep him and play him

He was badly gash his first year here. Since then he has made a decent enough contribution to justify his wages and the transfer. He was a Moyes signing who adapted to Martinez's playing style. When he's not in the side he doesn't kick up a fuss, just gets his head down in training and pops off to do some charity work. The way some of you lot jump on his back makes me think he's been through half your sisters. I'll admit that in for the first year he was here I would get angry seeing him on the teamsheet, since then he's done more than some others to deserve his place here but some of you lot love to hate him. To be honest, I'm not arsed about his charity work, I'm more concerned with the respect and work ethic he shows the club which has been more than adequate during times when some of his performances may not have been. There are some players I would prioritize getting rid of ahead of him.

How has he adapted to Martinez's playing style? The first thing he needs to do in that respect is take a pass from and recycle it to an Everton player. Naismith must have the most misplaced passes any Everton player has ever had. He consistently delivers a quarter of all his passes to the opposition or out of play. It's staggering. Almost impossible to achieve, but he somehow manages it every game.

There's no arguing about the accuracy of the passing, it badly lets him down. I think he understands how Martinez wants the team to play though, with patient build-up play to craft better opportunities for a goal. I'm not saying I agree with Martinez's tactics, or with Naismith's ability to do it, I just think he is the most committed to playing in agreement with Martinez's instructions (To keep his place in the team in spite of what he lacks as a footballer).

You can easily see why he cant get a look in with this Everton team this season. It's a slick, one or two touch passing machine. Allowing Naismith anywhere near it would be like throwing a shovel full of sand into the back of your pc.

Not that different to Deulofeu (75%) , Lukaku (75%), Lennon (77%) and Mirallas (81%)

Agree passing isn't his strength, especially when out on the wing which is not his preferred positiom, but believe he gets some unfair criticism for it.
