They get money from their sponsorships that somewhat rely on people being there to see them. The thought of a lot of empty seats has always struck fear into clubs and used to be (when pay on the gate) the signal to change manager.

I know they have most of the cash already but it would only take a really well supported boycott to force a rethink. There also isn‘t really a negative spin the club can make against the fans. Well I mean they’ll try but if fans stay away in force then I think that would be a very big and well publicised event.

Unfortunately there seems to be an air of acceptance and apathy about the place, very dangerous.

Sadly true.

“Kopite Behaviour” - was lauded at them regularly, yet they’ve done things we could only dream of.

Fought with the club over Hicks & Gillette, Battled over ticket prices and the ESL, amongst other things.

They’re run well, and they’re unhappy, because they want to be the best.

Our expectations nowadays are that we just want to be invited to the party, and we’re in a significantly worse position.

Too much opposition to the fight against the board for too many years.
Precisely. I despise that other shower, but I also admire the way their fans fight their corner - even from sometimes untenable positions - while we get demonised by our own board, patronised by the media, and suck it all up, unable to accept that perhaps the whole thing has to finally burn down before any rebirth can ever happen.

I mean, you have people deluding themselves that the fans can somehow rescue this team again this season despite the players being rubbish, the manager a failed PR man, and the board going nuclear, AWOL, and rogue. Talk about delusions of grandeur. We overestimate our importance to a group of mercenary mediocrities. Players with courage might benefit from a great fanbase - players like Pickford and Richarlison - but the rest are crushed by it. We are as much a burden now as a boon.

People are in denial. Our time has come. Strap yourselves in. We're going to do a Leeds.

This is all true. In the 1990s, Goodison did not sell out regularly. As managers struggled, more empty seats appeared. It was always a guage of when action needed to be taken. Now? We could lose every game and still the stadium will have waiting lists. Say what you want, but this board are far wilier than we give them credit for because they have been selling a defective product for 20 years with overwhelming success.

Our fans welcoming the team bus to goodison before the match (not intimidating the players, as reported by sky) got more negative media coverage than when the kopites smashed the city team bus up. That tells you all you need to know.

Even poor old Richarlison's throwing of a flare off the playing surface was portrayed as an unhinged act of violence.

What enjoyment do any of you even get from going anyway? Is it not a chore at this point?
They're probably all alcoholics, Mike. A day out in the pub before and after the match. Mind you, to be serious and fair, would you blame any Evertonian for being an alcoholic?

All of that can still be done without having to sit through two hours of “football” to ruin your day.

We will see how they feel next season mate when we’ve been deducted points and have the administrators in.
Yeah, it'll be fascinating to see how the people who refuse/won't/can't stop turning up at Goodison act when we are at the foot of the Championship or in League One.

All this talk of "supporting the lads" will probably be shown up for what it is then when crowds dwindle to 16,000.

I think they have the media on their side.

The “famous” Anfield atmosphere etc, all work in their favour. They’re lamented for doing stupid things, but their fan groups have some serious clout, which ours simply don’t, and that’s the difference.

Liverpool know not to take on the likes of Spirit of Shankly, because it often doesn’t end well.

I think we’ll bounce right back. I just think there’s still a big gulf between the bad Premier League teams and the good Championship ones. But it’s still tragic that we’re spending our final year at Goodison in the second tier.
