On first blush I was not sympathetic but when I thought about it and watched it again I think that he knows he wasn’t cutting it. Top goalscorer last year, Everton fan, amazing hat trick, goal at Anfield but legs knackered.

He’s away on a nominal to DC united
Ronaldo is away to Juventus for £105m
Never mind the club sitting down with him and thrashing it out, he knows he’s well past it at the top level.

I think the PR/Stretford Wayne is buzzing with the move. He knows he's finished but someone is still paying him a wage to do the absolute minimum possible as he squeezes the last drops of his name value out of football.

Yet, the Everton supporting Wayne is gutted. Tried his best, sold something that wasn't happening and didn't succeed. He wanted another year at the very least to have another bite at it but fell short of what was required.

He'll be back in the stands at the first chance he gets, no doubt about it. But he'll make his cash first.

One thing about this Bertolacci thing. Up until a few days ago he seemed to be going back to Genoa. This morning those stories stalled, and Genoa seemingly moved on to chasing a lad from Crotone, and now sudden Bertolacci is linked to us.

Wouldn't surprise me if this is agent talk trying to put pressure on Genoa to complete a deal. We've been used like this before...

On Bertolacci, I'm not really sure he'd improve us at all. But willing to trust Brands'/Silva's judgement if it comes off. That being said, it'd be a pretty underwhelming start.

He's not awful - he's pretty neat and tidy. But I don't think he'd help us push on either.
