Summer 2018 Transfer Window

We are the Titanic heading towards an iceberg, Walsh, Koeman and Allardyce have jammed the engines on full throttle and snapped off the steering wheel.

Turning this ship around is a huge task.

I know I'm the voice of doom but I don't see how the squad we've got can play the football we want to play without huge changes in personnel.

Front 3 is adequate now - Walcott, Richarlison, Tosun, Niasse, DCL and Lookman are all reasonable options.
Midfield - a 4-3-3 midfield is either a pivot (deep lying passing midfielder) and two all round types - like Croatia, Portugal and Barcelona play or two high energy and one playmaker - like France play with Kante/Matuidi and Pogba. We don't really have any of those types.
Back 4 - if we are playing a high line and pressing we can't play our current centre backs. If we defend deep then we might get away with it.

This is the result of terrible, terrible recruitment of both managers and coaching staff since Moyes left. 6 years on and we are still playing 3 out of 4 of the defenders Moyes left.

He's been shoved on the wing though so he isn't going to get in regular scoring positions.

Tosun has wasted many more chances than Sandro pre-season. Again, not saying I would have him in the team as I would have him sold to whoever will take him, but dont think the best of him will be out on the right. Think he would get a fair amount as striker with someone up with him.

..i’m just saying a poacher gets in goalscoring positions. Walcott plays on the wing but look at the goalscoring positions he takes up. Poachers sniff out chances. Sandro does not look like a poacher to me but I might be wrong. He’s a busy player and often busy players flatter, but I don’t see him consistently get at defenders or produce a bit of magic to create a chance.

Our defensive options.

Browning and Galloway – they have no future here and need binning.

Pennington – he is championship level at best. He needs to be sold.

Willliams – awful player and a poor excuse for a professional. Do whatever it takes to get rid

Jags – a good servant to the club but too old to be relied upon now and fact we still have to rely on him shows how poorly thought out the majority of our transfer activity has been since Moyes left.

Baines – Another great player but again too old now. We should have been looking for his long term replacement 2 years ago.

Holgate – full of potential but needs coaching. Should have played more last season.

Coleman – Make this man Captain!!

Keane – Maybe there is a player in there and maybe we just need to find him the right CB partner but all I’ve seen is mistake after mistake. Plenty of great defenders have lacked pace but they make up for it by reading the game, knowing where to be. He has zero pace, mobility and he doesn’t appear to have a clue where to position himself unless Jags is basically holding his hand. A 30m dud!

That’s 9 defensive players and I would say only 1 of them is fit for purpose and good enough to be in the starting 11.

Surely there has to be some quality defenders in the Championship/League 1.

Lescott and Jags both came in from this level.
Mcguire, Stones, Holgate, Trippier have all had lower league grounding.
I actually found that one of the big reasons to get behind England this Summer. Most of the squad had worked their way up from less glamorous starts.
I suppose that is more of a reflection on how poor the top sides are at producing real quality academy graduates these days in a world of success or the sack.

I am sure there are defenders out there who would not cost the earth and are better than Williams and the once fantastic, but well past it Jagielka,

Lets be honest eggs, apart from a couple of crosses he's been garbage, constantly knocked off the ball rollong around.

Hes exactly what we paid for, a 5m player. Problem is we popped him on 100k a week which is why we haven't shifted him yet

You crazy? Big powerful, pacey £40m centre back on loan, he's exactly what we need.

That vs Keane, Williams, jagielka and a yeast infection.
You’re missing the fact that he cant defend. Bringing him back would be like crapping into a toilet that’s already blocked with crap.

With a loan option, I wouldnt be against Mangala. He is for sure better than some of our defenders, but Id rather we went for someone better. Mangala is good at a few things and really lacking at others.

Today, I did not instictivly enter the transfer thread looking for Eggs’ excellent roundups. Its the first time I havent read it since the window opened. Guess Ill do it now.

Yesterdays game really took the wind out of my sails. Thank Odin its was only a friendly.
