Centre backs are one of the hardest positions to judge as how good they are entirely depends on the style of football they are asked to play.

People raved about Michael Keane - who when asked to do anything but very deep defending and shot blocking looks terrified.

Benitez and Moyes play systems that are great for centre backs. Two banks of four, force teams to go out wide and cross and head away the chances.

Mangala was a £30m signing and talked about as a guaranteed star and now looks shot.

Zouma played 20 times for Chelsea (practically every game until he did his knee) when they won the league a few years back, winning the league cup final playing in midfield. Then played in a chaotic defence under Hughes where everyone looked dodgy, when the new manager came in and organised things he looked really good again.

You raise some good points. But no offence to Michael Keane, but he looks like a dud and Everton looked like they got duped 25m. Where's the due diligence before signing a player? For example if Everton play a different way, they should at least scout him and make sure they player they are buying would be capable of playing or learning to play like that. From what I can see Keane looks incapable of playing a high line or in a back 4 system that plays up the pitch.

At least Ashley Williams (and I don't rate him), you knew what you were going to get, even though he's made more mistakes than expected of him. Keane looks like he's been totally exposed.

Yeah, Keane isn't a bad player but he doesn't suit what we want.

On paper not really though. Pickford Keane Schneiderlin Siggurdson Tosun. These are all 25 mill plus players. Not Silva’s fault that the ones between Pickford and Tosun are tosh.

They’re not his players though. I thought he would’ve at least made sure we got in a central midfielder who can play how he wants (unless he really is a fan of Schneiderlen)

Our centre halves aren’t mid table mate. I dread to think what will happen if we go into the season with them.

Scary stuff. Everton used to have the best centre backs. Jags/Lescott Jags/Yobo were very good. Jags should have been in the England regular at one stage, not even those John Terry affairs could dislodge him, incredible how he played with Chelsea all those years.

Might have depended on how closely he looked at some of these players. He may have thought midfield wasn’t a worry with three top players in Schneiderlin Gueye and Siggurdson. He’s only realising now that they’re all rubbish.

Koeman and Walsh

Pair of bellends are the worst thing to happen to us since the European ban, let see hope it doesn't set us back as far

Worse than Mike Walker or Walter? That was some bad juju. Get the point although Koeman did sign Pickford. Clutching a bit there tbf.

The departure of Lucas Digne is getting closer. Barça and Everton have already reached an agreement in principle for their transfer, in exchange for 20 million fixed plus variable. The two clubs must now put on paper what was agreed and at that moment the march of Digne to the Premier will be official. One of the reasons why the operation has not been finalized yet is because Everton also intends to incorporate Yerry Mina and the two clubs are negotiating this second transfer in parallel.

In any case and waiting to know if Mina ends or not also in Everton, Digne's departure is already a fact and will be announced in the coming days. The player has already told some of his teammates on the tour that his future is at Everton and he might not play the friendly this morning against Tottenham, since his idea is to leave the tour to join his new team as soon as possible.

Lucas Digne arrived at Barça two seasons ago from Roma, although Barça bought his rights to PSG in exchange for 16.5 million euros. He has not had the continuity that he wanted, since the holder on the left side is Jordi Alba, and two years later the Barça club will transfer him for a higher amount.

It will be the third sale that Barça makes this summer, after those of Deulofeu (Watford, 13 million) and Paulinho (Guangzhou, assignment with compulsory purchase option of 50 million). Also it has left Douglas, in its case yielded to the Turkish Sivasspor. In total there are already 83 million euros among the three sales.

€20m + add ons and we’re trying to get Mina in the deal before we announce anything, according to this fella.

Assuming we get dingy. Richarlison and dingy is the type of quality we should be getting in

Exactly, I can’t understand some of the negativity here. We complained that we rushed into poor signings in the wrong position last season so if Brands has come out and said at the beginning of the window ‘we’re going to take some time to assess the squad but then Rooney Klaassen Funes Mori Joel will be sold for fees and we’ll be buying Richarlison Digne and Mina’ everyone would have been demanding a statue for Brands. Instead theres been an increase in ‘Dutch fraud’ posts the last few days. Very strange, I think it’s been a promising start after years of shoddy recruitment.

..if the Pedro Delgado rumours are to be believed (gathering pace on Twitter apparently), then it must throw some doubt into Kieran Dowell’s future given they are about the same age and size, both play in the same area of the pitch and very left footed.

He appears to be a 50 year old retired cyclist Eggs so I suspect not.

Seriously though I’ve never heard of this guy, Dowell is probably off anyway I reckon.

He's gonna have to go some, to sign the other two / three that we need - another CB / CM and a back up keeper before the season starts.

This is when we hopefully see his worth.
