Summer 2018 Transfer Window

Thing is.

2 years ago we chased players like witsel Mata and birihimi and failed to get any of them and we all blamed the statute of the club being the issue . It was elstone and kenwright in charge of that

Last year we needed a centre half and a striker and koeman mentioned it after every game. We failed to get either. Walsh was in charge with kenwright above him .

This year with literally less than a week to go we are scrambling for a centre half and it's not selling players the issue as 3 centre Half's are gone now. Brands is in charge but kenwright has been mentioned by brands.

What's the one constant in the past 3 summers? 3 years we have struggled to get players in when it has been a key position and 3 years later nothing has changed. 2 director of football and 2 different managers and yet the same issue lies within the transfer market.

I don't doubt we will sign a centre half but I can guarantee you if it isn't mina then we are not getting who we want which makes the window a failure, going for whoever we can get in the end .

But the fact still remains the failure in the market despite the off pitch staff changing has to have a constant and it's kenwright , always has been and always will be. And the worst thing is about all of this , we are failing yet another manager , not getting him exactly what he wants in key areas, which is a joke to consistently do it year on year.

Players out isn't an issue. We can easily ship bolasie Sandro schneiderlin, vlasic , half the in-between reserve players , lookman (if he so wishes) overseas paying half their wages on loan and still make a massive saving wage wise.

This isn't me moaning, just fed up of this every summer when it's clearer each year why it keeps happening . We shouldn't be 5 days or so from the end of the window with so little recruitment in key areas still, it's painfully obvious that Silva has asked for at least 2 positions that we haven't delivered on.

Yet it will be Silva that the club turn on first again when he struggles like koeman last season and Mr true blue will be still sat in the boardroom running this club into the ground

Did you miss the 30m we flushed down the toilet on Michael Keane? Lucky you

Even Roberto saw sense in the end and threw Fellaini on against Japan when Plan A was useless.

Let's hope Silva (who should know the benefit of having a physical presence up front) sorts this out (although I guess CB is now his priority).

I’ve heard Slimani mentioned possible loan on deadline day.

They played last night mate, and he didn't play. I watched it and won some money of it.
Yep edited the post. However I think it's rotational stuff (hopefully) because there was a game they played on the 2nd that he started and then on the 30th of July he was out of the squad and the defence from that game looked similar to the one last night.

Just trying to give myself hope we're not signing him.

Would take, tbh.

I think we need to start ratchetting down our expectations on incoming players, tbh. Yes, try and get value for money and play football. However, dont be afraid to mix it up if needs must...and so have that type of player available.

This is where we are as a club after the carpetbagger handed the club's Stones/Lukaku/Sky money to Koeman to burn in a furnace. We'll be in this mode for a long time to come.

I would rather Shawcross than some thug of a Columbian who cant get a game for Barca, who is waiting for Utd to come in for him, and when Jose comes to his senses and decides he doesn't fancy him, the Columbian then picks us because we will pay him more than some second rate French club. Personally, i want us to sign players who want to play for Everton, not players who want to sign for Everton if Man.Utd decide they don't want them.

The names being bandied around on here are farcical, take a look at what we as a club can offer these players, no European football, virtually no hope of qualifying for the Champions league, 4 managers in 12 months, it doesn't exactly paint a picture of a well run, solid Premier League team does it?

12 months ago we had a disastrous Europa League campaign, a disastrous performance in both domestic cups and limped to an 8th place finish with a manager who was thrashed at every opportunity.

We are in yet another transition period, our 5th in 6 years since Moyes left.

We all have to be realistic. We are not ( yet ) a club who can offer realistically European football on a regular basis, we are not a club who can realistically offer the prospect of winning silverware on a regular basis.

To get to that standard we need solid dependable signings who can improve on what we have. Richarlson and Digne are the first steps on a long road back to where we were in the first season after Moyes left.

Rant over.

Absolutely.

Delusional for the past 3 seasons with your Witsel, Koulibaly, Mina.

Just seems the way things are at the moment where spending £30mill on a defender is more down to ticking boxes of what they can do other than defending...rather than defending being the main focus.

So if we go for Lascelles after 1 decent season, he'll be £30+million. They bought him for buttons years ago. Shouldn't we be doing that?

If you only sign players who are mid table at best ,you will fairly inevitably finish mid table at best.
Any players who show any promise will be cherry picked by the top teams leaving permanently entrenched in the mid table looking over your shoulder at relegation.
It's a vicious circle and perhaps only taking a chance on some better quality players is the best way to break it.
That or discover that managerial holy grail , .......the next Cloughie.

Exactly my suspicion until he leaves the club.
