It’s not about replacing Rooney, it’s about replacing Barkley.
No one in this team is capable of doing that since he left.
Agreed we need someone who can pick up their head rather than passing back. Schneiderlin (on his good days) this season was a decent replacement for Ross, in my opinion. Pushes forward when needed but lies deep also.

My main gripe with Ross was that he did not pull the trigger enough on goal, and didn't have the elite passing ability to make up for it.

100%. Letting Siggy roam a bit may also be an option there. I just feel we have yet to see him at his best since Rooney was clearly being guaranteed the starts he received

We need a towering centre back that can knock them in and I would be made up with Fabra or someone similar coming in at left back.

yeah, i was hoping we'd blow £25m on a real top left back. Spend £40m+ on a striker and then another £60m on a centre back and centre mid. With hopefully another centre back brought in to replace the two oldies. Saving money in that position could help with affording better quality on other areas i suppose, just not confident this guy is any good, he has no reputation. Who knows, i'm prepared to be patient.

The most important thing is getting a good manager who can get the best out of this squad, it's not crap and it's not without goals. As i said a few months back, klaassen played a hand in about 35 goals before he came here, siggurdsson 20, tosun scored 15, walcott another 20, sandro 15 and rooney had 10 in the first half a season here.

Yet we had feck all last season, they all had a massive dip in scoring terms, mainly due to two negative managers imo not getting the best out of them.

Slightly left field shout but I think we could do a lot worse than approach Bayern Munich for Serge Gnabry. He's done well at Hoffenheim although he has had a couple of injuries and Bayern are bringing in Goretzeka so maybe he will feel like he needs to leave for first team football. I always felt he didn't get the break he deserved at Arsenal and when they loaned him out, they couldn't really have chosen a more unsuitable destination than Tony Pulis' West Brom. Think he'd be brilliant on the left hand side for us.

Can't wait for Brands to start splashing some filthy cash on Mino's players. Perhaps most notably/realistically, Lozano and Kluivert.

Those 2 would transform our attack completely! Add them to walcott, Lookman, sigurdsson and Tosun and we’d be looking good. Another striker to compete with Tosun ideally.

Now that Brands is in and assuming we get someone who plays attacking fooball (Silva/Fonseca), we should be building around the young talent we have and adding to it.

Lookman and Holgate in particular have proven they’ve got the ability to become top class players, Vlasic has shown glimpses, and DCL/Davies could become great players with the right coaching in my opinion.

Big Sam said plenty of times that this summer would be about getting rid of numbers and replacing them with quality and it was probably the only thing he got right in his time here.

I’d be getting rid of:
  • Robles (free)
  • Williams (£5m)
  • Martina (£2m)
  • Niasse (£15-20m - been great this year but we should sell while his stock is high and look to progress)
  • Schneiderlin (£25m - unless our new manager/DOF think they can get him playing well again I think it’s time for him to go)
  • Klaassen (£15m - ideally I’d like to see him get a chance to show what he’s capable of. If clubs like Napoli are interested there has to be a player there somewhere but if not we should be able to get a half decent fee)
  • Bolasie (£20m - has his moments but probably not good enough. Teams would easily throw £20m at us for him)
That’s up to around £80m in player sales and a huge amount in wages without needing to really need to replace any of them.

I’d be looking to bring in players with high potential:
  • Lozano - £30m and he’s likely to be a star
  • Sessegnon - £50m - probably no chance but putting a huge offer in would show real ambition
  • Ruben Neves - £40m - been unbelievable for Wolves and will 100% become a top player. Scores goals from midfield which is something we desperately need
We’d be left with a great mixture of some of the best young players around and the experience of players like Rooney.

Pickford

Coleman - Keane - Holgate/Jags - Baines/Sessegnon

Gueye - Ruben Neves

Walcott - Gylfi/Rooney - Lookman/Lozano

Tosun/DCL

If we had that side and finished 6th/7th next season getting into Europe again, we’d be in great shape moving forward as a club.

I feel like I am going to get this wrong but a lot of those players are sold at a loss in your thoughts. We STILL have to pay the club we got them from, which means most would be a wash in terms of outlay and what we got.

Which means you think the club is going to spend $150m?

Couple things:

- You might as well add 10M to the sales ledger for Rooney.
- Who would spend 25M on Schneiderlin or especially 20M on Bolasie?
- There is absolutely no chance two newly promoted clubs (assuming Fulham come up) will sell us their best players.

I like you D, but youve had a shocker here.

I admire your spunk tho.
