Immobile should be our main target in Janaury. Chuck £50-60 million at Lazio and get him in.

Flopped in Germany.

He's a goal poacher, an excelle tone at that. His all-round game is pretty poor.

I mean I'd have him, but it'd be a big risk if he flopped again.

And no, Suarez was nothing like Immobile plus he was 24, not 28.

My point was Suarez was as big a risk as any at the time - he scored loads of goals in a farmers league and was nowhere near the player he developed into.

Thats the problem at EFC right now and why I fear Brands style of business (hard baragining) may hold us back - we cant attract top players without CL football so our only other option is to spend huge money and wages on top players to get us said CL football.

Its a circle but I fear Everton will never have the cajones to spend £60-70 million and lash 200k on a top top striker as it represents massive risk - however its that risk that will only ever see us move away from the West Hams and Wolves of this world and rubbing shoulders with the top 6.

tbf mate, I think most people knew Suarez was a player. Sometimes you can just tell, a bit like VVD and Wanyama when they were at Celtic. You can tell when a player is more than a flash in the pan/flat-track bully.

But yeh I agree with the principle, just not sure Immobile is the right player to lash that money on.

56 goals in 76 games he's been a machine for them. No amount of money would be a waste on a centre forward who can bag like that.

We simply have to take a big gamble on a top striker as we havent CL football to attract them. £60 million fee and £180-200k a week wage do anything to get one in.

Liverpool did it with Suarez and never looked back.

I'd like to think Brands to be smarter than to throw money like that about, he'll have a list of realistic targets in mind that he and Marco believe would fit the team

look what chelsea spent on morata and he has been terrible goals wise, v difficult to find a player that consistently scores goals

i dont think you are getting my point, some times players just fit to a club!
Immobille before Lazio was very hit and miss.
I suppose it would be like splashing all that money on someone like Jamie Vardy

Its just not the type of deal we have done or will look to do under Brands

Literally our best players this season have been Richarlison, Lucas Digne & Kurt Zouma

And thats before we draft in 2 more players that were "hard baraginied" into the club in Gomes & Mina

I disagree, I think we can attract a top striker. The premier is a big pull and we can pay the wages.

Couple of names mentioned, Werner would he go to Bayern to sit on the bench? And would probably be on the bench for the top 6, maybe Chelsea is the one team lacking a bit at centre forward.

Or Gómez from Celta Vigo, would be on the bench for the big 3 in Spain. Don’t get me wrong it wouldn’t be easy to get these players, but not impossible imo.
The lad from Italy who scored loads, the year before last. Belloti? I’m sure he’s still at the same club.

Probably a few other strikers, that some on here could also add to them 3.
Belotti is a great shout

At 28 i feel imobille has found his home and somewere he is enjoying his football, any move for him, or the purchasing club could be alot of money wasted i feel!

Immobile failed outside of italy.

Suarez looked a beast (literally) in Holland. The reds i knew were more keen on the geordie lump Caroll than him...but his talent was obvious.

Belotti is a great shout

Top player.

I think the striker type is interesting...are we looking at the Shearer, Ferdinand, Ferguson, Drogba types who have strength and hold the ball up or the Mbappe, Henry types with raw pace...

I think on the counter the best would be the latter speed merchants which always frightens defenders...

Werner suits the prem and he’d be my first choice but if Bayern are interested he’s going to them.

Maxi Gomez looks quality and I think he’d suit us quite well, still very young and only gonna get better, I’d be surprised if we aren’t sniffing around him.

I think Belotti would be a bit of a gamble but could pay off massively. His value will have dropped a lot from what Torino were wanting a year or so ago and at his best he improves us massively.

We ideally need a mix of both - a big physical player who can get about.

Look, I'm not advocating it, but if we were after a 'template' of any striker, for me it should be the Welbeck type.

Now, i don't particularly want us to sign Welbeck, but I do think we need someone who has pace and a bit of strength, who is also decent on the ball. Josh King would be another PL-proven striker for that role.

I'm sure Brands/Silva have their targets, but I do think that's the type of player we need to be aiming for.
