I can uunderstand how people feel let down by Gylfi, I personally like him as a player and don’t feel we utilised him as well as we could have.

Any judgement on the players based solely on this season is not the best way to go otherwise we’d be binning everyone off.

When we had Fellaini, he was a focus point of our play, however we had other areas of the team that created notably Baines/Pienaar & Coleman.

For me Gylfi has a part to play, he’s not good enough to carry us in games on his own, bhowever we can get more from him provided we strengthen other areas of our play.

The season is long and we are going to need more than one player capable of producing for us. Players at the level we will attract will have off games and it’s how others respond. There was too much expectation on him in a poor team this year for me. We seen how he ran himself into the ground determined to help the cause, but he’s not at his best if others aren’t chipping in also.

The main problem with the squad presently is the lack of creativity from CM - We do need a player who can generate chances/shoot from distance as we presently have a cluster of players unable to add anything to our final third play.

I’m certain we’ve not seen the best of him provided we actually have a team of committed players for him to work with.

..surprised me looking at the clips in that he looks mainly a footballer as opposed to mainly an athlete. Likes a nutmeg. I have to admit that i’ve never heard of him. It appears he was on Steve Walsh’s radar so this one must now be a doubt.

Read an article just now, they claim statistically he was one of the best CM players in Europe - adding the 8th best in France.

That has Steve ‘Top Trump Stats’ Walsh all over it, we need players who can compliment each other, if the scouts put in the groundwork and decide he’s what we need then I’m all for it, but I can’t wait until we relinquish this stats driven purchase model.

We need to improve our player recruitment ASAP.

lozano said hed be open to coming over with brands!

if loftus cheek was available that would be good for us like

..I think stats are fine but only in support of proper visual analysis. As you say and I keep mentioning, blend and players complimenting each other is something lost in too scientific approach to transfers. Most importantly, a player has to fit the team strategy vision.

its Yves mate not Yvette :)

Imagine if that was his name lol
Thank God! When I read it I thought it was because we were getting Rafael as manager...

Fully agree, if we get Silva, we expect the teams front 3 to work hard on recovering/pressuring the opposition deep. Gylfi & Walcott can already do this, the problem that inevitably will arise is that we have a immobile midfield apart from Gueye & Davies - these players have never pressed under Moyes, Martinez or Koeman - I think we need big changes here, simply having numbers in this position is not reason enough to target and strengthen other areas.

If we get the midfield right, other areas of our play will improve defensively and attacking.

I see no issue with this tactic.

Gana, Davies, Baningime can all do well under Silva. Need to bin the rest and sign 2 more.

Agree the midfield is key. In my eyes, we need one Cm brought in. Gueye can do all the chasing, harrying and tackling, but he needs someone next to him to do the passing and driving the ball forward. I like davies but he shouldn’t be starting for us at the moment. Front 3 of lookman, tosun and Walcott. With gylfi In CAM and then Gueye and a powerful CM next to him. No idea who though.

He's got it all - I have very high hopes. Quite a few of that Lille squad to be fair.

..you’ve clearly watched him closely but even from the clips you can tell he can play, very comfortable in possession even when closely marked and a decent passer of the football.

I can't see us going for him but he's the type of player I think we need in the middle; athletic and can play back to front a la Doucoure, Dembele etc. we've been linked with. Been missing someone that can run with the ball since Barkley left.
