I feel like in a summer where we can’t afford to play catch up this is what we will be doing....

Yes agree. Unfortunately not having a manager and bringing new DoF is going to make it very difficult to bring in new players in a strategic way- there is a good chance the next season /year is seen as yet another 'rebuilding season' to write off.

He turns on the ball like a tugboat.

Kroos and Modric are just as good as Xavi was when they turn on the ball,both sublime midfielders Madrid have.

The gulf in class was massive in the CL final in midfield,terrible English coaching is the biggest culprit,only English midfielder who turns on the ball well in CM is Wilshere,laughable how he's not in the WC squad after one of his best seasons of being fit.
Phil Foden's pretty good to be fair - but it is true, our (England's) production of creative midfielders who can make space for themselves is shocking

Our midfield is a much bigger problem area than LFC's. LFC, have for years, run rings around us in midfield and although Modric is light years
ahead of anything that the reds have, EFC need two new top midfielders next season.

I'd keep Gueye/Benny as the defensive midfielder but we need a new look. One of the biggest disappointments of the Koeman era was that by failing to rectify midfield, our number 9, be it Tosun or whoever, is isolated. Davies is not ready/good enough and Morgan ditto. I think that Vlasic might grow into something but I hope Ernie Howe can sort it out.

Who cares what Liverpool are doing?
They’re obviously able to attract players that we can’t. Doesn’t mean we can’t still improve and find players better than the ones they’re getting.

Think the CL final would indicate that we do care "what they are doing"

...morning folks, here’s what the papers are saying on the transfer front this Tuesday morning;

- Chronicle Live suggest Everton and Southampton want to sign 24 year old Middlesbrough defender, Ben Gibson, now that the Championship club have failed to win promotion.

- According to the Liverpool Echo, David Unsworth has lined up 3 targets for this summer but has to consult with Marcel Brands before going ahead. Sheffield Wednesday striker, George Hirst, is thought to be one of the targets. Jamie Holland, Head of U23 recruitment, begins the process before getting Unsworth involved later on. ‘We always watch them two or 3 times live having seen them 20 on the video and doing background checks into their character’, said Unsworth.

- 4th Official report RB Leipzig are looking to turn Ademola Lookman’s loan deal into a permanent transfer. They also say 33 year old defender, Ashley Williams, is frustrated by the lack of game time and list Leeds, Wolves and Southampton as possible destinations for the Welshman.

- The Liverpool Echo report that Ramiro Funes-Mori’s transfer to Mexican club, Monterrey, is not possible because Everton refuse to accept less than £9.5m for the defender.

- L’Equippe say Everton and West Ham have been joined by Galatassary in the hunt for Chievo Verona playmaker, Samuel Bastien. The Belgian U21 international joined Verona from Anderlecht in 2016.

...and other things of interest;

- The Daily Mirror say Everton have agreed a deal in principle and hope to appoint Marco Silva as manager this week.

- The Liverpool Echo report Marcel Brands will drive into USM Finch Farm for the first time this week and already has a number of meetings lined up. The longest holiday Brands has had in the last 15 days has been for 10 days. Marco Silva’s expected appointment will gather some serious pace this week.

10 days out of 15 isn’t that bad eggs haha

Because you can't coach creativity. But you can coach it out if them by turning it into organisation and ball possession.

We are not a nation that likes the unpredictable, nor the individual anymore. We grind people into mediocrity in our schools so they will be predictable office fodder who don't rock the boat.

Sigh.
