Summer 2018 Transfer Window

There will be cash there to spend but he'll be holding the cards close to his chest unlike others before him.

No issues in trimming the squad first - for example, selling Rooney, Schneiderlin and Sandro frees over 350k a week in wages. That obviously is high up the list of things to do.

We get rid of anything close to a dozen players, with fees for some, frees for others and loans for the ones impossible to shift on permanent deals, then sell to buy would still allow for massive improvements.

Klassen (12m &5m), Sandro (6m & 5m), Rooney (free & 7m) Schneiderlin (15m &5m), Mirallas (3m &4m), Martina (free &2m), Bolasie (15m&4m), Williams (4m&4m), Mori (10m&3m), Besic (5m&2m), McCarthy (10m & 3m), Niasse (10m & 3m)

First number being the fee +low estimate, second being the low estimate on wages saved per season) would bring in 90m & 46m in wages saved.

If brands can get a 15-20% mark up on those figures which is reasonable to assume, then you're looking at close to 100-110m and 47m in wages saved/raised.

Throw on top of that a modest budget of around say 40-50m from extra revenue not moshiri pumping money in (basically what we backed Allardyce with in January so not too outrageous a number) and we could be looking easily as a 150m spend whilst culling the squad size and getting rid of players unwanted by us.

140-160m, with a headroom of 50m culled from the wages could easily see this squad massively improved

Carvalho (20m), Lozano (35m), Ismaily (20m), Lascelles (30m), Maddison (20m), Dolberg (20m)

Players are just examples like, but around prices they probably could be gotten for

It's about how much we are willing to lose on our 'investment'.

Bolasie, Schneiderlin and Klaasen are inevitable net losses - given the inflated fees and wages.

I suppose it will have to be a case of forget the past and just recoup what we can.

Difficulty is that some might not shift until the end of the transfer window when teams get desperate - or even January.

Do people think there are centre backs in Europe as good if not better than lascelles for less that half the price? Surely there is.

I fail to see anyone buying certain players but I am totally on board with the sell to buy (for once) as it is totally necessary.

I just can’t see anyone being stupid enough to sign Williams, Jagielka, Garbutt, Bolasie (maybe China?) and some others for any kind of fee let alone pay the wages they will want.

..given their salaries we might have to let the likes of Sandro and Mirallas leave on free transfers and even then give them huge sweetners to leave. Also, some reports suggest we’ll still have to pay part of Rooney’s salary. We’ll certainly have to take a huge hit on some, perhaps quite a few loan deals will be arranged.

You have to think that the club will also look to move on many of the youngsters who have been out on loan. Some will chose to wind down their contracts so it might take a while to get the squad into shape.

It’s what you believe mate at this point that’s important, I’m just stating an opinion.

I’m not trying to win hearts and minds. I see some red flags this window let’s see how it plays out. We will be relying on player trading in the main, with limited cash flow to support it, which isn’t ideal in my opinion.

Red flags in what sense?

I think it depends what the expectations are?

My expectations were always four signings, and anything on top is a bonus. Those signings need to be quality (CB, LB, CM, FW (counting wingers as forwards, btw)/

Ideally, those four quality players will replace the entire contribution of 9-10 players who offer very little.

Get all that done and the foundations are in place moving forward.

I think Palace may take Bolasie back, or perhaps somebody like Southampton (I believe Hughes was a fan of his).

Jagielka won't be going anywhere, there's little point in getting rid of him when - relatively speaking - he isn't a high earner. Same goes for Baines.

They're useful to have in the squad as insurance options. If they aren't happy with that role then we will actively seek to move them on I'd imagine.

I don't think we'll be signing Lascelles so don't worry.

In fact, perhaps other than Lozano, I don't think we'll be signing anyone currently mentioned or linked,

There is a real dearth of actual quality in that position about though, mate. The best prospects are all at the big clubs already, although there's players like Kevin Voigt - for example - who would be gettable imo, although Hoffenheim are in the Champions League next season.

Sure, the options are there, but if you're wanting a player you know isn't going to take time to settle into the league, I can understand the Lascelles links.

We'll see what happens.

Can definitely see a situation where we have to look for loan deals for some of them just to save on wages.

At least with Lascelles you know what you’re getting. I like him a lot.
There will definitely be better centre backs out there we could get. Would we be able to identify the right one and would they be able to adapt to the premier league. That’s the tough part.
