Connor Grant and Joel robles arent part of the cull lol

Theyre both first team squad members.

You cant pick and choose...thats Marcels assignment and one hes beginning with aplomb.

Niklas Stark available for 15m, I read somewhere this morning (polish newspaper)

Was a top u21 player but in DM...not a CB remember thinking hed get into the full squad for Germany...not really followed him since.

I reckon he's gonna surprise us next season in a 4-3-3. Play him exactly where he played for Ajax.

Interesting point but this league is a different kettle of fish.

No much better to write him off and call him useless, when - in my opinion - he has not had a chance to show what he can do in his proper position and with a functioning team/plan.

Sometimes Everton fans are too harsh and too quick to dismiss players.

Or...people could write him off before we signed him, you know...when he played for Ajax.

...yep. The current transition is via a quarterback approach with the likes of Rooney and Schneiderlin picking the ball up from deep and hitting forward players with long passes. The trouble with that is it’s easy to defend. Runners, particularly in central areas draw defenders out and create space in behind. If you think about it we rarely get free kicks in and around the opposition box because of the way we play.

It’s not only in attack, though. The 85 team is a good blueprint as 3 of the back four (Stephens, van den Hauwe and Ratcliffe) had Rolls Royce engines to go with talent. Their mobility, pace and powers of recovery made them a formidable unit.

Thats a very good point about the defence mate.

I see what you mean now from your post earlier about athletic, powerful players with good technique.

The right is fine with Coleman and Kenny...Holgate needs a comparable understudy/rotation player and then we really only have Robinson (ive never seen play but reports say he gets up and down easily with lots of pace + ability) and Connolly (who i personally think is a very good utility player).

Logically would need to add 1 RCB / 2 LCB / 1 LB to our current defensive options as so few of them have the skillset you describe.

Id be very happy with a LCB and a LB this summer who share the attributes which you highlighted.

Can’t be very good then because you also said Arnautovic was stokes best player “by far”, meaning that Shaqiri was far worse. Both of them aren’t good enough and are sporadically good.
Shaqiri is essentially a free transfer. Buy for 12m. Sell in 2 years for a profit. In today's market shaqiri is a 20m player.

@Eggs if Brands/Silva highlighted CB/LB/DM/CM/WF positions to be strengthened...

If there were 2 positions where big money was spent, which positions would you hope to see filled with the top quality players?

I know Mourinho immediately builds a strong spine...other managers build across the back 4...some go for the midfield and forward options...

Its such a tricky position to be in i think because we really need CB/LB/DM to be of the highest quality to play the Silva system...

2 positions to spend big on, which would you choose and why?

I’d still like Shaqiri.

Sorry. I just like players who can pull a bullet out of their ass on occasion.

Even if that occasion is twice a season.
As a squad filler it'd make sense as a replacement for mirallas,
Worst case scenario he can't be worse than bolasie

I know i wasn’t asked the question but I do think it’s a good one. I would spend big on a LB and a winger/attacking mid. The reasons are: the LB situation has needed sorted for the last few years and we really can’t have another Martina or kid covering Baines situation, either go for Bernat or Tierney and nip it in the bud.
Last year we created next to no chances and we need to create more and get closer to Tosun. Lozano fits this profile perfectly.

IMO it's easy, it's CB and CM/DM. LB is something we need to focus on but Baines is still MODERATELY serviceable. What we need more than anything is an understudy who can step in if we are spending money on only 2 players.

...we have a surplus of CBs but regardless of that I think we need a Rolls Royce in there. Our back four is ponderous and I have that vision of Man City breaking at Goodison with Baines chasing but treading water in pursuit.

If there was another costly signing, a CM with that mix of quality and the ability to get us up the pitch with running power and control. We desperately need that central attacking quality to get at back fours and create, a player that a DM or back four player can give it to. We are talking priority and we have players in other positions who will do for now. Saying that, I would hope LB wouldn’t be too costly a role to get somebody decent in.

I agree, its a tough question, very tough, we NEED a LB, we really do, I love Baines, but he picks up injuries and hes certainly not the player he was, if anything he needs at the very least a proper back up. BUT and im aware its unlikely, the boy Robinson just might be a hidden gem?

But yeah I would pick LB.

Then im struggling, Holgate is a maybe, but the other CB options in my eyes are sub par, more so than our attacking options in my eyes really.

I mean I could pick players in midfield and up top, not ideal players, but I would be reasonably happy, I am so far away from happy with our CBs currently its unreal.

But who knows, Keane at times looked a player, so maybe with the right coaching, anyway, tough question, thankfully I doubt we will only sign 2 players, cant see us signing a load, but I have more faith in Brands than I ever did in Walsh.
