Italy have loads of good defenders though.

So, maybe, he's not that good ?

Some players just don't suit some leagues.

Schevchenko brilliant in Italy, useless here.
Bergkamp a donkey in italy, brilliant here.
Forlan a donkey in the PL and brilliant in Spain.

1 in 2 strike rate for Portugal...

@Zatara

Deffo better than Arsenal's midfielder for starters but like I said in another thread we can't go from what we've got to a Top 4 starting XI in one summer.

What makes you think we cant? Were only talking about 3 players...

Amazing to look at Arsenal having gone from the likes of Vieira and petit to what they have now.

With 2 good additions into the centre I think we can look a different team.

You should try watching him play, has decent pace not quick but he will be fine, Saturday showed that when he was running through the middle running past the Mexican midfield and has improved all round as a player over the year. Already a good player with a wand of a left foot, shows great touches and can pass well.

He is hesitant in pressing, but I think he can be taught how to do that properly.

I don't know why some people are so eager to put down young players that have come from the academy. If they're not good enough they won't make it, but a least let them have a proper go at it.

Maddison and dowell may both be creative midfielders but they are no where near the same style of player. Maddison has pace and can carry the ball box to box much like Barkley used to, and this along with his two footed shooting was what made barkley special for his age. Dowell has no pace and reminds me of one of those talking trees from lord of the rings. He does have a cracking left peg tho but he doesn't have the same attributes as Maddison. Not saying Maddison is worth 25m and not saying he isn't, not saying dowell is crap either , just saying that their styles are not the same

I always thought they looked similar mate.

Dowell is by no means slow, but i do agree he isn't a ball carrier in the way Maddison is.

But in terms of position, both having a brilliant left foot, eye for a pass/long shot, they're similar.

That being said, I think Maddison could easily play in a central three, whereas Dowell wouldn't fit into that in a CDM-RCM-LCM kind of 4-3-3.

I think that we need to look at three elements here in terms of the squad;

1 -- The experienced first team starters
2 -- The young players in the match day squad
3 -- The 'future' squad of players if we focus mainly on development + adding youth

Pickford
Kenny -- Holgate/Feeney -- Gibson -- Robinson
Davies/Williams -- Baningime/Connolly
Dowell/Vlasic
??? -- DCL -- Lookman
That's the squad of players who Brands/Silva may wish to develop and bring into the first team now or gradually.

If we signed Diop, Maddison and Lozano then the players most likely to be starting or pushing for first 11 places would look like this by the end of the season;

Pickford
Kenny -- Holgate -- Diop -- Robinson
Maddison -- Baningime
Dowell
Lozano -- DCL -- Lookman
Any team in the world would be looking at this and wanting to replicate it with their own young players coming through.

Of course this eleven would have several experienced players such as Coleman starting as the young players develop.

I believe the cost of this would be around 75million.

38 players? How...unless you include the like in Browning, Galloway, Pennington, and Tarashaj etc as first team players. Most of them will be gone soon.

They are all first team players. They are not u21s and are on first team contracts.

Combine all of these types of players on the periphery and the wages are quite considerable.

Under FFP rules teams are only allowed to add 7mil on salary per season which is 134k. Hence the need to move these types of players out (and others like rooney) to then increase this budget.

Only Robles, and a few U23s.
At the end of next season, Baines, Williams, Jagielka, Stekelenburg, Browning and Rooney are out of contract.
Season after that, Niasse, Tarashaj, Garbutt, Martina, McCarthy, Funes Mori and Galloway are out of contract.

This is very interesting...I think we may see this;

Stay: Baines, Jagielka, Stekelenburg staying for 12months
Leaving: Williams, Browning, Rooney, Niasse, Tarashaj, Garbutt, Martina, Mori, McCarthy, Galloway

Isnt Mirallas' contract up in 2019/20 also?

I've seen some articles saying that Gelson, Carvalho and Bruno Fernandes have issued to terminate their contracts today.. if it's true we should throw £60m between the three of them.

Its all over the media from different sources so it looks like its going to happen.

For me the one id want would be Bruno Fernandes. He can literally play anywhere in midfield and seems to pop up everywhere...class.

Gelson Martins would be another good addition on the right wing giving us much needed pace

Carvalho of course sits deep and would spray the ball around. I used to rave about him a few years back but now I see how the pace in the premier league has increased so much and don't see how he has the mobility.

Torreira, Fernandes, Maddison would all be interesting and exciting additions in the centre.

Martins and Lozano adding to Walcott and Lookman to complete the set.

Id love us to get both Carvalho and Dost on free transfers. If both make the step, they would be massive assets, but Im not sure they got the right attributes to be worth a big fee as they would be massive gambles.

Good work as always, Eggs!
