If we are desperate for money why are we letting Rooney go on a free?

..I think we are more desperate to stabilise and balance the squad. We can’t do that by continually bringing in more. Unfortunately, the majority of players we want to get rid of are not in high demand and on big buck salaries. We can only shift them by making their moves financially attractive to them. We are having to take a hit.

Getting his salary off our books is a key factor.

PSG had net spend of £130m last season and got no further in the Champion's league than the season before. Chelsea's net spend of £52m saw them drop to fifth.
Liverpool had negative net spend last season and got top 4. Spurs net spend only £16m and also finished top 4.

Every team who isn't a European giant sells players who aren't going to play. We do it, Chelsea do it, Liverpool do it, Juventus do it, everyone does it.
Did PSG win their league?

The teams you’ve mentioned aren’t selling to buy, though, they’re trading. They can buy players without having to sell first. We appear to now HAVE to sell player before we can purchase. In other words, we’re back to how it’s been throughout the majority of the PL era and, without a miracle occurring, we’ll continue to be an unsuccessful club.

But most get the reason why mate. We simply cannot have the wage bill we would have if we bought players before we offload some, because there would be no guarantee any players would leave.

Mori and Rooney moving is a decent start.

I understand why, at least 10+ players are offering little value for their wage. That shouldn’t mean that we can’t be negotiating to bring players in. We appear to be nowhere close to announcing a signing. Say if we can’t offload the players, then what? We sign no one? That would see us involved in a relegation battle.

I’ve heard of Monchi and Rangnick, actually. Doesn’t say a lot for Brands, though, does it?

Who is regarding him as a Top 10 DoF? Please back-up that claim.

I’ve made it up, have I?

Brands replied: “No. First of all we need to offload players to raise money [to spend], and also salary-wise.

League Winners - Manchester City
Biggest spenders 2017/18 - Manchester City

THAT is success, not finishing 6th, or whatever other way you’re going to try and spin success for Everton.

Just digging yourself a bigger hole. So first off, you are saying we need to spend at the same level of City, and that somehow we can do that, so you are criticizing us for not being able to do that? You are becoming a parody of yourself.

Second, you now have been deceptive again by not including the full quote section. "Everton spent £150m last summer plus a further £40m on players in January for a desperately poor return. Asked whether Moshiri would make similar funds available this summer, Brands replied: “No. First of all we need to offload players to raise money [to spend], and also salary-wise. "

When asked if Moshiri would make similar funds(190 million) available again, Brands replied no. But Moshiri not providing 190 million doesnt mean Moshiri wont provide 40 million. Then he said we need to offload players to raise money, and also salary wise. Which is 100% correct, and correct even if we net spend -40 million.

But you already knew that, right?

You make the assumption we are not negotiating. Thats fine. My assumption is different. The Mori deal being a case in point. Not a word in public until it was done.
