Summer transfer speculative hopes and dreams

Not a great source but they seem to be summarising reports from the Spanish press.

Catalan newspaper Sport on Saturday go over the future of young midfielder Sergi Roberto. Luis Enrique has spent the past couple of weeks explaining to the 23 year old that the club don't want to sell him this summer and he needs to remain in the squad for next season. Roberto had been showing signs of unrest at not progressing his career at the speed he would have hoped for.

Barcelona would be loathe to lose him for fear of criticism from fans of letting another La Masia prospect go and also because they need the strength in depth after the exit of Xavi. Barcelona can't register any new players until the next January transfer window and therefore letting Roberto go during the summer would mean they'd lost two central midfielders from the first team squad in one window - with no replacement.

That hasn't stopped interest and Sport say that Everton manager Roberto Martinez has been pursuing the idea of a move for the player for all of the past season. Martinez is Catalan and therefore highly thought of at Barcelona and that gives Everton something of an advantaged position.

A loan of Gerard Deulofeu was arranged and he looks set for a permanent deal now, but Barcelona won't even want to let Roberto go out for a few months. Things could be different come the January transfer window, when Barcelona will be able to recruit. The idea of Roberto going on loan or otherwise to an interested club in January would be increased if Barcelona complete a deal for Ilkay Gundogan or anyone else of that ilk.

For me Heaton would be no better than a Foster/guzan type GK. We have seen how a top keeper can win you points over the season ala De Gea and Lloris surely we should be looking to flog Howard for a few quid and get Begovic in, quality GK, still relatively young, Bosnian so knows Besic and would go for around £7-8 with only having 1 year left on his deal according to some papers. Get £2-3 mil for Howard off some MLS side and it's only a £4-5 mil outlay.

I'd be surprised if we could get anything for Howard.
