Barca= Spanish core
Bayern = german core

etc etc

The top sides more often than not have a local core of players. The core doesn't necessarily mean the best In the side but the consistent performers who play every possible game. As an English club we should benefit from local players of high qualty
The German and Spanish players are evidently better than their English counterparts though.
As shown by their achievements at international level over the last god knows how many years, whilst England have done nothing.

Will be another summer of Zero net spend....Rom, Clev, Niasse will bring in £80 million plus.

Yawn! Net spend must be the most boring term in modern football. I'm not really bothered what our Net spend is so long as the team and squad are improved. If Rom goes then it will be a huge struggle to replace him, that aside assuming he does stay then if someone we managed to ship out Clev, Niasse, McCarthy etc and bring in better players for the same amount then I'd be delighted with a net spend of zero

Im not bothered about it either mate, aslong as we improve, dont care how much we spend.

Im just pointing out that we could spend lots to improve and bring players in, yet stil not really 'spend'.

In that case I agree!

Net spend seems to be a stick to beat managers with and something Sky thrive on. Ultimately it doesn't matter what your net soend is if the team is improved. Utd for example last season must have had a huge net spned but any progression they've had this season is in no small part down to a man who was signed for a transfer fee of 0 which didn't effect net spend!

..I mentioned this morning that Koeman has actually done well shifting players he doesn't want which is an achievement in the modern game where players are often content to sit on long contracts. I'm not sure what you're expecting, change takes time and what the manager is achieving is maintaining a reasonable position throughout the process.
It's the whole defensive unit though. Not one or two.

Williams looks like £9M poorly spent. We should have saved that and pt it to a bid for Keane. Baines, despite the nostalgia, is not fit to be a starter in any top four aspiring team. Jagielka is not the quality needed, and Mori is making one too many mistakes per match now.

None of this explains why we are doing so well.
We are facing into two games over the next week which are season defining.
To be wildly optimistic for a second and say we win both then we are firmly in the fight for a top four position this season never mind next season.
But, even if we don't it means that in his first season Koeman has us looking at CL qualification rather than relegation with less than ten games to go.

...from what I gather we bid for Keane in the summer and nothing was doing. It's ok mentioning these names but it doesn't mean they can instantly be acquired. I imagine Williams was always going to be stop gap, enabling change to happen whilst securing a reasonable return. Change takes time, I think RK has already done well from a churn perspective, getting rid of many that looked like we would struggle to sell.

I think we will really go after Keane and VVD, but we will ultimately end up with Keane and McGuire. I'm not convinced that we will go after a big name left back yet as much as we will bring in a competitive option in the summer. I think Koeman might want to address winger options if he isn't convinced by our current options (Barkley and Davies have done a solid job plugging that gap for now). Backup striker as well- don't think we will be in the market for a big time keeper yet

Rather than relegation? Do me a favour. This club hasn't had to worry about that since 2002.

Bear in mind Koeman wont be here long we are told. If that's the case we will be effectively entering the mid-point of his time here. There is no time to lose. Get the rotten wood out the door and get some quality in. If Koeman doesnt do that you know he's here for £6m per season.

No need
