Summer Transfer Window 2017

Bear in mind Koeman wont be here long we are told. If that's the case we will be effectively entering the mid-point of his time here. There is no time to lose. Get the rotten wood out the door and get some quality in. If Koeman doesnt do that you know he's here for £6m per season.

..I don't know how long he'll be here but I think he's doing what you suggest, 'getting the players out he doesn't want and bringing quality in'. I think even you agreed he would need another couple of windows before we judge. I admit to being a bit baffled by some of his tactics but I'm pleased with the progress he's made. I'm quite content with what he's done to date.

I hope we're in for De vrij, been the odd link. I think RK brought him through at feyenoord. Think he would be perfect for the prem.

I disagree with this let's get a youngster to sit on the bench and wait for baines to fall apart. Clubs with big ambition don't act like that. Why wait for another possible distain and Howard moment.

Baines is on the way down imo. Go and buy a mid 20's left back for 20mil. Which tells baines he might not be in the team.

Look at Chelsea they were poor last season terry looked finished. Did they buy a teenager a give terry another season. No they spend 30mil on a CB and drop their captain and legend. And now they are winning the league.

Baines hasn't been poor and Chelsea's turn-around has had very little to do with not playing Terry though...

I thought for a second there you said Baines could get a start at City and Arsenal....oh....

We live in the past with players. If this club is to make the leap forward we have to get ruthless: fallen irreversibly from previous standards? Yes. Then there's the door. And THAT is exactly the position we are in with Baines and Jagielka, and I dont think Williams will be too far behind them out the door.

An ambitious (a really ambitious) club would act decisively. Us? We'll let them hang around for another season or two longer than we should do.

Agree on jags .... but you do t think baines is better than Monreal or clichy or kolorov? Wrong !

Although alot of it is usually media guff work. Alot of the time the media do not over sell a player.
If they say chelsea, utd and liverpool are interested in a player, than that tends to mean he will end up there and nowere lesser.
All i hae seen re:keane last few weeks is him linked with the top top clubs, we havent really had a single mention.
Tends to mean he aint coming to us

Then your selectively choosing which article to read, before he played for enguuuurlaaaand there was plenty of mention about us.

I never said he was poor, I said he was on his way down. He doesn't offer anything like he used to go forward. With him being nearly 33 that's understandable.

But he's never been great defensively. And there's been plenty of times this season he's been caught out. And we've been lucky to get away with it.

Him up against mane is a worry for me.

We will never know how Chelsea would have done with terry in the team. But conte made a decision that he wasn't good enough.

Absolutely. And the fact that they're massive outliers that are doing nothing of note this season should tell you enough :)

I know mate, but that doesn't discount the fact that they won it with that pair of lumps. You don't 'need' a ballplaying centre half, you just need the tactics right to accommodate 2 that 2 lumps.

Baines is 32 and 3 months.

You're right in that he isn't as good going forward as he once was but he's still been one of our most consistent performers this season.

I'm not disagreeing that we should be looking for a new left-back. I just don't see it as an area that we should be spending £15m+ on. I'd rather us go for an upcoming promising full-back like Robertson or Tierney (as two examples) and have them ease gradually into the first-team picture over the course of the season, rotating with Baines when needed.

I think some people miss the point that, despite Moshiri being here, we don't have the budget to fling money around at will, especially with FFP rules in place also

If we sign, say, 6 players, there's no way all 6 will be big names on big money. Maybe 3-4 of them might be, but the others will either be young prospects or experienced unglamorous pros who can do a job and are an improvement on what we already have

Any realistic transfer lists will take that into account

Sorry to be the bi annual buzz killer in the transfer thread, but I speak truths

For example, my list is a mixture of two big names (Lacazette and Mata), two established Premier League players who won't come cheap (Van Dijk and Keane), and two younger players with great future prospects (Tierney and Loftus-Cheek)
