Not picking out you singly, mate, but why does everyone have Coleman in our starting XI next season. Surely we can't expect him to be ready in August? I was assuming late fall (at earliest) given the horrific nature of the break. Perhaps I'm just pessimistic. Does anyone know when he's expected back?

yeah i know, i did include that bit in, but deleted it, because i was trying to write a post about our ideal best XI, rather than the one that will be starting the season. Ideally we can get a good full back who can play both full back positions, but that's a bit rare now these days.

@orly - I know you love a good piece of twitter weaseling

well, i mean, i would have liked two new keepers, like i would have liked two new starting centre backs and three new strikers, but surely we have too much business to do as it is?

Palmeri just showing how much he talks out his hoop mate, he basically writes stories/tweets to try to generate interest in players from Italy that he gets fed by various Italian clubs - NONE of it is ever actually genuine interest.

...it's a bit like those cold calls you get at home from firms trying to sell something.

In my mind i imagined them calling Bill up and him getting all excited and starting to talk about fees in 20 instalments for him before someone turns the phones and wi fi back on in his office and he finds out we signed one the day before for 30m on our first bid.

The papers are going to speculate on how many and how much with us now but the reality is we are going to need

1 defender if jags leaves
Left back if Galloway isn't preferred there
Centre mid if McCarthy leaves
2 wingers
1 striker

On top of those two already. I can see us signing one or two multi attackers like niang or sandro who can play multiple but realistically we need to aim for 3 strikers to score 10 times each to cover roms goals and hopefully potential that they can double those amounts in the future

Gueye Snides
Barkley Klassen Siggurdson
?

All 3 of them roaming around switching positions behind the striker with two behind being deep, but also having one of the three, more likely to be klassen dropping back to help as a link between the two centre mids and the front three.

You see spurs with dier and wanyama fairly similar, dier being the deeper man, but not your nutorious anchor man in the makele mould, and it works for them.

Lookman, bolasie, niang?, mirallas, lennon and dela? to provide width from the bench or a change in system.

We aint playing 5 in midfield.

You see Klaassen playing in a midfield three then? If we end up with Sigg as well I'm not sure who will be best to play where.

Everton will have too much damned quality :p

I think we will mainly play 433

Currently that means Gueye and Klaassen in the centre with Schneiderlin a bit deeper.

Davies is the only other centre midfielder we should keep I think. He can alternate with Gueye and Klaassen.

In an ideal world I would like us to go for Renato Sanches and Dendoncker from Anderlecht.

We then have effectively 2 players for each position.

The 3 up front would mean if we did sign Sigurdsson he would be on the left forward position but I think Sandro/Lookman are fine there if we land sandro

Mate we 100% need a centre back regardless of if any current ones leave or not, more likely we need 2 as both Jags and Mori have good chances to be off

Pickford/Robles
Coleman/Kenny
???/Holgate
???/Williams
Baines/???
Schneiderlin/???
Klaassen/Davies
Gueye/???
???/Lookman
???/DCL
???/Bolasie/Mirallas

ideally 7 or 8 more...

Keane and Sandro for 30mil would be immense for the money and cover 2 positions ahead of Holgate and Lookman.
