Big test in the summer, need both quality and quantity.
We can't and won't spend 30m+ each on 5 or 6 players, there will have to be a bit more creativity and imagination to secure the best mix of signings. If we are to splurge (by our standards) nor can we do it every summer so I would like us to continue to focus on youth and players with their best years ahead. A sprinkle of experience and an old head at the right time is then fine.
I think this is the summer where we need to secure one or two relatively 'big' signings relative to our stature and budget, and a few more reasonably priced gems. Step forward Walsh for the latter.
Last summer was disappointing but is in the past. I could understand what seemed to be a fairly conservative policy particularly in signing Williams and known quantities like Bolasie trying to stabilise us in the top half. Job done.
I am looking for and expecting a bit more boldness and adventure in our signings this summer though. At least one name to get people excited.
We also need to prove an ability to scout and buy from the European leagues and beyond and not limit ourselves to domestically based players.
