Summer Transfer Window 2017

I love that comment from the ITK's. Don't take this as gospel cos i am pretty much just using percentage guesses here so if i am wrong you will still think i'm well ITK

WRD is very good and as said previously, it's April and we're chatting transfers. Far too much time between now and the window opening.

Beg to differ like but footy is all about opinions.

Personally reckon he's in the top five keepers in the league, though there's a huge gulf between the likes of Lloris, De Gea, Cech and Courtois.
Right, so then why would you want a player who really isn't MUCH better than what we have? We need a keeper in the mold of those other 4, not someone who is/may be marginally better than Robles.

Robles is no where near that class.

There's a few levels imo.

De Gea, Lloris, Courtois, Cech

Schmeichel, Forster, Butland

Mignolet, Karius, Begovic, Robles, Pickford, Cabellaro, Bravo, Hennessey etc.

We need to move up a level.

The top keepers are at CL clubs and unlikely to join clubs outside of the CL. In fact, there just simply aren't that many 'top' keepers about.

So we have to be realistic, and go for a player in that second level. Prem experience in such a key position is, IMO, a real bonus as well, which is why I think we may well make a move for Forster or Schmeichel (Pickford is another option, and given his age he's only going to improve).

Alternatives are out there of course, but it's not a position to take a risk with. Leno, Sommer are both good 'second-tier' keepers that'd be great signings - though Karius looked like he would be too (albeit he's had a crap defence in front of him).

Stephane Ruffier ? Salvatore Sirigu ? Alphonse Areola ? Jordan Pickford ? Alban Lafont ? or wait for it....

The Italian Stallion Gigi Donnarumma ? (We can all dream right ?)

Sirigu is poor. Areola has never convinced me though he is young (that being said, Trapp has now replaced him as PSG's no.1). Lafont is a kid and has a long, long way to go. Donnarumma is a non-starter.

I can understand that mate and 2 months ago was the same. I saw him at West Ham though and it was a fantastic performance. This goes alongside Robles against Liverpool and Spurs where he really played poorly.

I think a key difference is mentality. Schmeichel seems to ooze confidence and is a big character. He has literally won a league. I think we are missing that. In my lifetime only his dad and Southall have really had that and it made one hell of a difference.

Robles I think looks a very talented young goalkeeper. However at present he seems to shrink a bit in the most critical games. I think that transmits through the defence and our team. Often it's not just about how well you play, but when you play well. Stats can only tell you so much.

The stats are very good for Schmeichel too, his save ratio etc. It's more just an eye test thing though and that I think he will be another character who will not wither in the big games, which is very important for us.

I appreciate he's 31 but this was around the age Nigel Martyn was when we first went for him. I see a lot of similarities and would be very pleased to get him in.

For me, I look at De Gea, Lloris and Courtois (even Cech but he has faded) at the top sides and can see City and the RS making key signings at goalkeeper.

I appreciate that they have oodles of cash, champions league and dare I say a larger global presence but I think that we should look at the goalkeeper position very seriously.

I've mentioned Leno and Rico (amongst others) in the past as well as future England keepers (imminently) Butland and Pickford.

If we signed a keeper 23-25 years old (for example) we would get 10 years out of them for 20-30mil transfer outlay (2-3mil a season), now clearly I don't know the proposed fee for schmeichel but id imagine its not less than 15-20mil forsomeone who isn't of the same quality as our competitors...

If not for injury, butland would have taken harts place after the summer...Pickford has emerged as a top keeper as well...if we ignore them as well as other superior keepers on the continent and go for schmeichel it feels like a bit of a cop out.

For me;

De Gea, Lloris, Courtois
Cech, Butland
Pickford
Schmeichel, Forster

Courtois and De Gea have had opportunities at big clubs, Butland and Pickford have had numerous loan spells and worked their way into being 1st choices at mid-low table sides. If they had a move into one of the top sides in the league then they would move into that top tier very quickly.

Its important to note than lloris and cech are no spring chickens either so signing butland or pickford now would leave us with one of the top 3 or 4 keepers in the league in a year or two...improving over the next 5-7 years at least also.

We should be after one of those 2 if were going to sign from another prem side

Couldn't agree more. Teams don't win titles with average or even good keepers. They have great keepers. Let's hope the RS continue with karius and Miguelot for next season at the least. Pickford or butland would be my preferred choice.

I think Martial, Blind, Sigurdsson and Benteke would be worth looking at. Possibly Rannochia if he continues to look as good as he has done.

I reckon either Keane or Gibson will be first through the door.

Also wonder if Trippier or Vorm would be interested in playing more regularly.
