Summer Transfer Window 2017

...here's some gossip from Wednesday mornings rumour columns;

- According to Clubcall website, Swansea manager Paul Clement has told Everton that Gylfi Sigurdsson will only leave if their very high valuation is met. Sigurdsson is set to join Swansea's pre-season tour of the United States which leaves tomorrow. The Guardian say Koeman is determined to sign Sigurdsson despite the £50m price tag.

- FootballLondon say Spurs have been handed a boost with news that Ross Barkley has not travelled with the Everton squad on their pre-season tour of Tanzania. Everton say the midfielder has a "groin problem". Joel Robles is another absentee from the tour.

- Football London also report that West Ham are closing in on Marko Arnautovic who has handed in a transfer request at Stoke. Arnautovic was on Everton's radar.

- JustArsenalNews weblog suggest Everton's interest in Christian Benteke is confirmation that Arsenal will not sell Olivier Giroud. 4th Official also report Everton interest in Benteke.

- According to the Liverpool Echo, Everton are looking to hijack Crystal Palace's £8.6m bid for defender Jairo Reidewald who plays for Ajax. Left back Reidewald is only 20 but has already played 100 games for Ajax.

- The Croydon Advertiser says Crystal Palace are favourites to sign Arsenal defender, Calum Chambers who has also been interesting Everton.

- French outlet Foot Mercato report that Juventus have knocked back a bid from Galatasary for midfielder Mario Lemina who is also interesting Everton.

- Turin newspaper, TottoSport, say Everton and West Ham are both keen on another Juventus midfielder, Stefano Sturaro.

- 4th Official report West Brom are closing in on Everton's Gareth Barry.

- The Northern Echo say Newcastle are set to face more transfer frustration as Leicester City have entered the race for Everton midfielder, James McCarthy.

Thanks for that saved me a lot of time today ... too post

Christian Benteke scored an average of 1 goal every 2 matches at Villa and his goalscoring record at Crystal Palace has been similarly impressive. Yes, he only bagged 10 when he was at the RS but that's because Deirdre Barlow hardly ever played him.

Very few strikers who were born in the 1990s have already scored over 60 goals in the Premier League and a dozen goals for their country. Christian Benteke has.

Benteke is also much better in the air than Lukaku.

If we can get him for half of what Man Utd paid for Lukaku, I say go for it.

I´m in the Benteke camp as well. Only thing that worries me is pace. Say we brought in Benteke and Sigurdsson. While good players, our forward line would be extremely slow in premier league standards. Many people are pinning their hopes on Lookman, but apart from us not yet knowing if he cuts the mustard at top level, he´s still a kid and while be in and out of the team.

Really ???

Out of all the centre forwards in the world you think its a good idea we buy him.....bed now mate.

Things might be clearer in the morning.

???????

I was asking you I've you've ever sat down to watch a few West Brom games from start to finish to accurately judge whether he's a good or bad player. Watching him vs us isn't really a complete view is it.

With prices rising and rising i cant see palace accepting any less than 45m for benteke, even more if we sucomb to swansea's 50m demands for sigi.
We have entered a new part of the transfer window now i think, were teams will ALL start playing hard ball with us and try and milk us for everything we have.
I also think if we are targeting anyone from the sides above us, they will be very reluctant to sell, to strengthen us furthar.
I dont blame them, it is exactly what we would do.
Although prem experience is important (and it also weakens other sides) we may get better value abroad from now on.
I think getting our 'target man' centre forward may be a struggle. It seems giroud is already a nope so we have moved to benteke, and as i said before, palace will want alot for him i think

Can someone explain the "reverse ferret" to me please? I have worked out what the weasel index is all about but this one has got me stumped.

A reverse Ferret is backtracking of a spurious transfer claim :

Ie :

" I have a mate, who's Nan knows a fella that cleans the bogs at Finch Farm and he told me that this fella saw Thomas Muller there with his mum and agent."

Then a further post withdrawing this claim:

" The fella says he got it wrong, it wasn't Muller the fella saw, it was actually Benteke "

The term Ferret rather than Weasel is used so that there can be no doubt or confusion that it's a backtracking rather than a dubious transfer rumour .

Good evening mein frandels, and welcome to the seventh week of the Weasel Index.

This captures data from July 4th - July 11th

What is the Weasel Index? Find out here https://www.grandoldteam.com/forum/threads/summer-transfer-window-2017.94428/page-846#post-5473408

Another wonderful Weasel Pic from good frandel @Sapie88 . I am hoping that the WhatsApp Group tribulations blow over soon and everyone is happy and frandly again.

So this weekend, we are happy because Wayne Rooney has come home to us. A big congratulations here to @Joey66 who, despite a camera up the poopentuben and a bit of a reverse ferret, told us about this ages ago.

But what are this week's updates I hear you ask?

Thanks for asking.

'Inevitable' Wayne Rooney. Yes we know Mr @Username frandel, it's all over the shop so you aren't having this. Bandwagon Weaseling must be CRUSHED.

Final Thoughts:

  • I absolutely love Perennial Weasel sightings. We've even had one Perennial complain about the Index this week, say no one cares about the Index, then write four posts and a PM about it. MAke of THAT what you will.
  • The main index has grown significantly again. King David is on there!!
  • Downie must be CRUSHED as usual. He has been silent underground recently but we know he is here on GrandOldTeam.com and soon his judgement will be meted.
  • I don't know what a quiet week of no signings will do. More rumours?
Thank you again to the Hunters. You are the best Frandels.

Hi @orly

Please do not include David Downie in any future post - it's caused him a great deal of distress to the point of not being able to sleep.

Thanks.

When are Celtics Champions League Qualifiers?

They wouldn't sell Tierney or Dembele before qualifying....

Anyone else linked in that or the Europa league qualifying?

what took you so long. can you ensure it's done by 5am in the future? Cheers

Cuco Martina looking likely then?

I have to say I know it's unspectacular but it's at least an experienced RB to start with, while Kenny can then develop in time.

Imagine throwing Kenny straight in and him having some bad games - he'd not recover.

Nah mate disagree, if this lads been brought in it should only be as a stop gap emergency cover for Kenny, Martina is the definition of a very very mediocre (being generous there) player, he'd not start for any team in this league.

Kenny meanwhile is at an age he needs to start playing top level games, captained his team to win the 23s league, won the euro 17s with England and was a standout player there, won the world cup with the junior England side and again was the best right back in the tournament, every time he's had minutes for us he has impressed also, if Martina plays ahead of him it's a travesty and if the lad decided to move on I wouldn't blame him

This is through injury his chance to show he's ready, if we bring in a utter retread to stop that, then I fail to understand why.

Easy answer is to go on about maybe he's not ready etc, manager sees him in training and such like. Fact is though all managers have a blind spot for certain players and Martina seems like Koemans if he does indeed start for us.
