If we're going to be spending £55m on a player, I want it to be on someone utterly special In that isco sort of bracket ... Not a centre back. A great centre beck means we have more chances of getting at least a draw. A great attacker means we have more chance of winning matches.

It's like United paying a world record fee for a central midfielder, didn't really make sense. Would only go as high as £35m for a great centre back.

Siggurdson is exactly what we need as well, he'll play the right balls lukaku wants, and our main attacking let down atm is that we have no set piece specialist. His crosses are spot on about 90% of the time, we'd become a threat from anywhere on the pitch imo.

Spot on.

Spend a ton of money on improving your chances of not losing which will earn you a handful of extra points over a season or spend most of it on players that will help you win games, that will earn you 3 points.

Unless we're like crazy loaded our expensive signings should be attacking players.

History tells you that normally the club that wins the league has the best defence

Totally agree. I'd rather spend £20 mil on a CB and £35 mil elsewhere in the squad.

We need to win about 4 more games a season that we do at present to have a chance of top 4.

Getting better defenders in will just mean we don't lose some games. You get more points for winning than you do for drawing, I don't get how people can miss the logic.

That's the thing for me, if we lose Rom we simply have to spend a big whack on a proven striker. VVD is a luxury if we can spend £50 million on him great, if we have a lighter budget Keane and Maguire/De Vrij for a combined £40 million would make more sense if it meant more cash for a top goalscorer.

Sky saying that Torino have requested a loan extension for Joe Hart but would probably be unlikely as the player wants a fresh challenge and Everton are favourites.

Agreed.

I'd love it if we have megabucks to spend on all positions but doesn't seem likely, so we're going to have to compromise on some players if they're too expensive.

Which was a Citch price. Citch might pay £55m not Everton.
True. My point however is that while prices are a result of multiple factors, recent moves can often set a precedent when it comes to a valuation.

I'm not saying that Everton will eventually end up paying £55m for him, but rather that Southampton may demand such a price and hold firm.

If that's true, which will ultimately mean he'll end up moving to the likes of Citeh, then I stand by my point that we would struggle to argue.

I am all for buying VVD for around £50 million. Our attack is quite good, we have scored just 11 goals less than the best team in the league. Our defence is not too great though. 14 goals more conceded than the best defence in the league, just one less goal than the 19th team in the league. And if we improve our defence with players that can play the ball, it will really help to improve our attack as well. And VVD and Keane are both really good on the ball.

Pickford - Coleman, Keane, VVD, Baines is a candidate for the best defence in the league

If VVD moves, we're not likely to be his preferred destination mate.

A right back could be on the agenda, as Coleman's likely to be out till Christmas at the earliest, and Holgate's crossing leaves something to be desired.
