Summer Transfer Window 2017

We also need to spend a good sum on a RB, sadly Coleman won't be back the same player if at all to atleast the season after next. We could do with a regular attacking fullback with Holgate as cover. Baines also needs to become a squad player with a LB coming in.

Basically we need a whole new defence and GK, with a back up forward coming in. If Rom goes add another 2 good quality forwards.

You can't really guess how Coleman will come back. Some come back better than ever like Larsson when he had the same injury at Celtic and then you have players like Shaw that have struggled to date to get back to their best?!....

Going by the current squad your right, but going into next season do you not think we need to improve back there just as much as we need to up front?

I get what your saying about fees etc but sometimes it's worth spending big on a top class player for the back as it is for someone up top to make the difference.

yep, agree, i just think if say williams gets injured, you have jagielka or mori to step in, but if lukaku gets injured, well he's massively irreplaceable. We found out we didn't replace bolasie until we got to januray and sort of changed systems as well with barkley there. Mirallas' backup is lennon who well never gets on the pitch anymore. They're weak options there.

I agree you need a good defence to win the league, but you look at boro with one of the best defences in the league, they don't do anything up the other end and because of that it looks like they'll go down. Their backup strikers are probably better than ours! haha

Agreed. Simple really. A top class defence/goalkeeper enables you to win games. A porous defence means you often have to score 2 or 3 goals a game to win games. That isn't going to happen against top class opposition. Everyone goes on about Spurs' attack (rightly so) but their defence and lloris is the difference why they are challenging for the league.

shaw doesn't have a best ha i think he's just as crud as he was before, i never really understood what he actually did to get such a big move. Still on 0 goals is he? for a full back that is pretty weak at defending that's not great.

Even if he comes back as good as old your talking 2018 before he even gets back on the pitch and then he'll take a few months to get back to full speed. Personally I don't want us going a full season which includes EL games with just Holgate playing at RB and some carp freebie like Martina.

I know we've smashed two of the four teams in the CL this season for 4, but nobody except rom is a goal scorer. We're not a one man team, as shown by the fact we have the most different amount of scorers in the league, but that game against United showed how we constantly crap it all up in those big away games because we can't score more than.

Exactly.

We're lucky Lukaku hasn't had a bad injury so far as our form would dip if he was out of action for any length of time.

If we keep Lukaku next season we need a goal scoring winger who can play up front. Someone like Mirallas but who is more consistent. I think Mirallas is a good player but his shooting isn't great, it's not bad but he's not a great finisher.

There must be someone like a young Henry at a club who is a winger but is good at scoring goals who could switch positions if needed to. They might be expensive but buying a goal scoring winger who we would play on the wing normally is our best bet. People have said that a good striker wouldn't want to come to us to be a back up and that's prob true but the way around that is to buy a prolific winger.

Wasn't it fergurson who said "good strikers win you games but a good defence wins you the leauge". If we had two top CB this season we would be in the CL places this season.

Results like swansea at home, burnley away, spurs at home/away, liverpool at home, palace at home, stoke away or utd home/away or city away. Tell me with top CBs in the team those results don't change?

I'm not saying those results wouldn't change.

What I'm saying is that if you turn 3 losses in to draws through having better defenders you get 3 points. If you turn 3 draws in to wins by getting better attacking players you get 6 points.

Most teams that win leagues don't have to defend much because they normally have the best midfielders and attackers so they control posession, create more chances and don't get attacked often.

People assume that the teams that have the best defensive record must have the best defenders. That's often true but it's often the midfield shielding the defence from attacks and not giving away posession that makes the defensive record so good. If you don't lose the ball cheaply, you minimize the ability of the other team to attack you.

We struggle to beat the top 6 teams because we rarely look like scoring against them because our attacking players aren't on the same level as a unit.

If we want to beat the top 6 teams we have to beat them, not draw with them. We can spend as much money as we want on great defenders but it won't help us as much as it will if we increase our attacking threat and ability to score goals.

i've thought that, would love a kanchelskis, but the sad thing is, they don't exist anymore. Sane's done well at city but he cost a lot of dollar despite still being a teenager. Real madrid and bayern are hogging all the best wingers of the last decade in ribery, robben, ronaldo and bale and then if we look at players who we can poach from lesser teams you look at players like zaha who are just a bit meh really.

I think if we get siggurdson and rooney, there's plenty of goals there and then hoping our wingers can chip in with 7 or 8 or so. I would like us to get a player of the dries mertens ilk, the fact we were after brahimi for big money makes me hope we will be in for one more talented winger, especially if we offload lennon and i think deulofeu will be gone. Just have a feeling about that sessegnon at fulham that he could become a top class winger like bale did and we could convert him, i like what i've seen from him.

only from liverpool really. i wouldn't say they got great deals for the two lads at arsenal, about the same fee for them two combined as what the RS paid for clyne, for example (probably their cheapest signing from soton). I think when we discuss transfer fees, the RS have to be discounted because otherwise results are a bit skewered ... bless them.

Remember that clyne was also in his last year of contract hence why the rs didn't get fleeced again, same with wanyama to spurs.

I think I'll trust Koeman, Walsh etc to spend what ever money they deem fit on what ever position they chose to.

It's a completely pointless debate saying we shouldn't blow loads of money on a CB etc. As I've said, the best defences win leagues, it's as simple as that.

Yes you need a contribution throughout squad, but the key positions are the spine. Currently on that basis GK, CB are areas needing serious attention. Couldn't care less if VVD costs 50 million, it's not my money

Kanchelskis is a legend. He was crazy skillful.

I've not seen Sessegnon, so no idea how good he is but a lot seem to really rate him.

I'm just hoping we have a great transfer window. I think Koeman will be great for us if the board back him and give him the finances to compete.

Wether they can or will .......

I'd be happy with Siggurdson, not sure about Rooney, as I don't think he's looked after himself, hopefully I'm wrong though. He's always had the talent, it's wether his fitness is still going to be there.

Yeah and that's the worry for me next season. That scenario, or worse, scares me this season so I wouldn't want it next! Haha. Jags of late as rolled back the years but in general this season he's looked poor and not worthy of starting and Funes Mori is decent but he always seems to have a dodgy moment in him and I don't think he'd be one of our stand out CB's week in, week out long term. Williams seems to be our main CB under Koeman and it looks like he wants someone to partner him, preferably van Dijk but if not, then possibly Keane and I'd be happy with either. Tbh I'd like us to sign 2 CB's but if we did it wouldn't be both van Dijk & Keane, that would be too expensive.

Come the summer, a top GK and CB could make an hell of a difference to us. Then obviously bring in some quality in the attacking areas and we'll start to look a real threat of a team going forward.

Most of his benefits for us won't be because of what he does physically on the pitch tbh. I still think he can still come on as a sub to go two up top and grab some important goals because of his positioning, and will still get assists that way, thankfully i don't see us being stupid enough to stick him in the middle of the park playing against energy players like gueye and kante because of course he was going to suck in that role.
