Summer Transfer Window 2017

Spot on.

Spend a ton of money on improving your chances of not losing which will earn you a handful of extra points over a season or spend most of it on players that will help you win games, that will earn you 3 points.

Unless we're like crazy loaded our expensive signings should be attacking players.

I know we've smashed two of the four teams in the CL this season for 4, but nobody except rom is a goal scorer. We're not a one man team, as shown by the fact we have the most different amount of scorers in the league, but that game against United showed how we constantly crap it all up in those big away games because we can't score more than.

History tells you that normally the club that wins the league has the best defence

Fair point, I just think we have much better/deeper options at the back than we do in attack. Id, be happy paying that sort of fee for two very good centre backs, I just don't believe even the best centre beck in the world should be worth that much. Probably because you have 4 others back there to help them whereas attackers get less help.

I am all for buying VVD for around £50 million. Our attack is quite good, we have scored just 11 goals less than the best team in the league. Our defence is not too great though. 14 goals more conceded than the best defence in the league, just one less goal than the 19th team in the league. And if we improve our defence with players that can play the ball, it will really help to improve our attack as well. And VVD and Keane are both really good on the ball.

Pickford - Coleman, Keane, VVD, Baines is a candidate for the best defence in the league

Good points again, but our attacking options are weak. We have quite a few young centre backs here who seem talented enough to make the step up, with wiser heads ahead of them.

The attack has youngsters like lookman, dcl being near first choice now. We have niasse, Kone, deulofeu and Valencia probably all off, leaving us with just lukaku, dcl, bolasie, lookman, mirallas, lennon and Barkley. Its very thin on the ground and not an awful lot of quality, which is why I want us to focus there more.

Keane and Sigurdsson would be solid signings indeed. Prices are reasonable and both are good solutions to two problem areas we have. Sigurdsson's set pieces are an added bonus. A keeper is a must as well.

VVD would be an outstanding buy. Unlikely, but he would be a statement signing. Rom is likely on his way, but VVD is the type of signing that would perhaps make him have seconds thoughts about wanting off. A better keeper, Coleman back, Keane and someone of VVD's quality, and that is a very strong defence.

But as Rom departing looks likely, I think we'll also be in the market for 2 or three forwards, if that happens. Gather this is Koeman's preference, easy to presume, but he alternated three central forwards with Saints with Pelle, Austin and Long.

We have absolutely no chance of signing VVD. City will be in for him and he'll go there - he's perfect for Pep.

City might not be in for him, their being linked to Bonucci again. And Chelsea will have Christensen back next season and seem to be more keen on both Koulibaly & Rudiger.

So IF that was the case then I think we'd have a slight chance of signing him. But that's the calibre of player we've got to be looking to bring into the club definitely.

VVD ship has sailed imo we won't be spending £50 million+ on any player. If they would take £40 Million possibly could see us making a move but I doubt it.

I don't think he'll go for anywhere near £55m, not even £50m! Where as that figure even come from, the press? But then again, Southampton always seem to get good deals for their players but I don't think van Dijk will go for £50m+!

only from liverpool really. i wouldn't say they got great deals for the two lads at arsenal, about the same fee for them two combined as what the RS paid for clyne, for example (probably their cheapest signing from soton). I think when we discuss transfer fees, the RS have to be discounted because otherwise results are a bit skewered ... bless them.

We need to win about 4 more games a season that we do at present to have a chance of top 4.

Getting better defenders in will just mean we don't lose some games. You get more points for winning than you do for drawing, I don't get how people can miss the logic.

Wasn't it fergurson who said "good strikers win you games but a good defence wins you the leauge". If we had two top CB this season we would be in the CL places this season.

Results like swansea at home, burnley away, spurs at home/away, liverpool at home, palace at home, stoke away or utd home/away or city away. Tell me with top CBs in the team those results don't change?

Going by the current squad your right, but going into next season do you not think we need to improve back there just as much as we need to up front?

I get what your saying about fees etc but sometimes it's worth spending big on a top class player for the back as it is for someone up top to make the difference.

We also need to spend a good sum on a RB, sadly Coleman won't be back the same player if at all to atleast the season after next. We could do with a regular attacking fullback with Holgate as cover. Baines also needs to become a squad player with a LB coming in.

Basically we need a whole new defence and GK, with a back up forward coming in. If Rom goes add another 2 good quality forwards.

we only conceded one in each (except burnley where we missed a hatful of chances and they fluked it in the last minute), and half of those games we were second best tbh. United away we didn't win because of the attack, we defended superbly, as we have done most of the season, but wasted about 5 or 6 golden opportunities to kill the game, i was puling my hair out.

I'd be happy with signing just one dominating centre back and a top keeper tbh. Coleman's injury now makes that an annoyance that we probably have to fill that position as well now. But a back 5 of coleman, baines the two new signings i mention and then williams, jagielka, mori, holgate, galloway fighting it out for the other centre back spot is very good imo. I don't see it as a necessity to buy two new centre backs as well as the impending keeper we'll buy, considering we need to buy about 4 or 5 others.

But hey, if we get all that i'll be happy.

Hmm know what your saying but still got good fees for their players, even likes of Shaw, Schneiderlin & Wanyama...

Personally I think we need to be spend big on our defence.

Pickford, Keane and Van Dijk would hopefully be our 1st choice pairing for the next 5 years so to spend around £100m on these 3 wouldn't be the worst idea.
