Ronnie will know the players view on this. They have the same agent and VVD is on record as saying he still speaks to Koeman. If the player is open to a move here I'm sure Ronnie will do his best to make that happen. But we're not going to waste anyone's time making bids on players that may see where we are now as below where they want to be. We'll end up looking like West Ham.

Agreed. VVD will have been sounded out at the end of last season and probably said he´ll only consider a club in the CL.
With all the teams in premier league cash rich the CL is more important than ever.
I honestly don't think we have/willing to spend the sort of money required to make those bids in all honesty. Siggurdsson at £40-45 million is likely to be the most money we'll spend on a player - the elite players that will cost us £60-70 million I just can't see us being able to afford.
The shame in that is if we signed a Van Dijk or a Belloti is that players like Giroud then stand up and think "I want a bit of that" that's why Moshiri's biggest mistake has been not getting that statement signing in, who knows it might have even kept Rom for another year or so...

You may well be right mate. We will have a maximum transfer budget which will also be measured by what sales we make. The uncertainty surrounding Barkley and the injury to Mori will also have muddied the waters somewhat. But I'm pretty sure a lot of discussions will be going on behind the scenes with both clubs and agents, and Walsh/Koeman will have some ideas of which players are willing to at least speak to us. I can't see us going after any players who don't fit that bracket.
As regards statement signings, don't underestimate what signing Rooney has done for us. As a player, he is still well respected worldwide and lot's of players would have sat up and taken notice when he signed for us.

Yes, but Lukaku exiting at the same time sort of takes the shine of that, doesn´t it.
For me, only thing we´ve done so far is spend the Lukaku money, just like last season all we did was spend the Stones money. Yet to be convinced we´ve even bid for Sigurdsson or that we´ll spend any more this window.

I disagree, but there's many who think the same as you. I'll be surprised, and more than a little bit disappointed, if we don't end up with a positive net spend of £50m this summer. Not that I think the net spend is the be all/end all. It's just that we have a huge rebuilding job to do and if we want to seriously challenge top 4 this coming season then that is what's required.
