Summer Transfer Window 2017

We'll have a narrow three behind the striker anyways, so 'left' or 'right' isn't going to have our players necessarily stuck on the touchlines...

I imagine we'll play like this...

Sandro
Sigurdsson Rooney Klaassen
Gueye Schneiderlin
Baines Williams Keane Martina (urgh)
Pickford

Williams and Martina really stick out like sore thumbs there :(

Teams won't be losing sleep when they see that attacking 3 behind Sandro. That team will be very easy to play against. You compare to the RS with Options like Coutinho, Mane, Salah, Lallana and you can see how far we are behind with a past it Rooney, one paced Siggurdson and Klassen. Really happy with Pickford, Keane and Sandro but think we have made some mistakes with martina, Rooney, Klassen and Siggurdson

There is talk that Giroud wants to see what happens with Sanchez. Which means the window. And if Sanchez winds up going, Giroud stays, leaving us with Valencia(the concept) again.
Arsneal have spent 50m on a striker, something their fans have been crying out for for seasons. He'll start every game he's fit and he'll start as a CF. If Sanchez goes they'll fight to keep Giroud but ultimately i can't see him being happy - in a world cup year @ his age still being a bench warmer. That doesn't mean he'll come to us but i do think he'll look to leave Arsenal unless he's promised starts.

Yep, I'd much rather see Sandro used in the three, with a proven top class striker in the nine position, and Rooney nowhere to be seen. That'd be ideal, but won't happen.

"Witsel was always going to drag on. If we're willing to wait for him it's because we are confident there's a good chance of getting a deal done."

That's a very fair point and we need to make sure we don't let it drag out another month for Giroud for that very reason

Another week or so would be fine as he's in pre-season training with Arsenal, so should be as fit as our players, but if we leave it until the last minute we run the risk of having to go for our 25th choice or whatever

There was talk over the weekend that we'd set a deadline of another 7 days to get the Giroud deal sorted or we would move on. I hope we're serious about that - we've been generally very decisive in the window so far and it's not been until the recent Giroud and Sigurdsson deals that we've had to drag anything out - we appear to have learned lessons from last summer so far, just hope we don't succumb to the same thing again now

Mane is the interesting one. Didn't he have a good season under Koeman before they both moved on? Surprised (and disappointed) we aren't in the market for that kind of player.

What about the excitement?

There's plenty to be excited about.

Three deals still to happen - or that the club are trying to make happen anyway.

Two of those seem to be us going in for players that are going to really improve us in areas we could do with improvement.

The point of having a list of back-up targets is that we're prepared for that eventuality.

There will be a cut-off, and when that cut-off is reached the club will move on to that list of back-ups.

Just because you/us don't know about it, doesn't mean it's not there. It's naive to think otherwise.

Stop panicking. This time last year we'd only just made our first signing.

Three deals to do - two of which look to be very complicated but at least one of them should be coming to a head soon.

There's three parties in every deal. The player (his reps) and both teams. Negotiations happen, and are at times prolonged and at other times go very quickly.

Sigurdsson is keen.

Some are saying that Giroud is also interested.

Deals simply take time to sort out.

Giroud was always going to drag on. If we're willing to wait for him it's because we are confident there's a good chance of getting a deal done.

Gylfi, similarly, will take time if it's going to end up being such a huge deal.
To be fair, you could have said those exact same things this time last year and again in January.

Deals do take time to sort out, but they also fall apart sometimes, and we had better make sure either that doesn't happen or we are perfectly prepared to move on if it does. A third consecutive window of failing to do effective business would really set alarm bells going for me.

The club will have a list of targets that I imagine have all already been approached (or their clubs, at least) over the course of the last few months.

It seems that Giroud is our primary target but there will be alternatives.

So far this window we've shown a willingness to go and get our first-choice targets.

Which players individually are you excited about watching this season...like Andrei Kanchelskis type of get off your seat excited...?

So the backups are pretty much a given then? So we DID get a #10 when the Mata deal "fell apart"?

The point Im making, not trying to insult you or bicker, is that even backups still have those 3 parties which makes things complicated as well. Waiting and waiting and waiting gives you less time for those backups, then they go elsewhere and we are stuck with either nothing or a plan T backup.
