Would all be great signings and the kind of players I hope we're going to target.

I don't get to watch as many other teams as often as I did when I was younger but from what I have seen of those players they all look really good.

Watched a highlights vid of Abraham today and he looks like he'll become a quality player.
Watched him a few times for England and never thought much of him but he's banging in goals at the minute to be fair. He got linked with a move to Turkey today.

Good point that, on a side note anyone who really thinks Schmeichel is even close to being good enough to replace Robles didn't see how flat footed he was just then, terribly average keeper but with a great surname.

Yup.

Hes not a bad goalie or anything but there is a reason he has spent most of his career in the lower reaches. He has a great season last season where everything else clicked at his club. His form last season was the exception to the rule if anything.

So yeah not bad but not enough of a leap from Robles to make it worthwhile, he is also 30 isnt he?

So in other words your basically saying cos Sigurdsson sets up a fair amount of goals from set plays it doesn't really count against Barkley and it's not up for comparison?...

And I watch a lot of football mate and have seen a lot of Sigurdsson, from his Reading days, through to Hoffenheim, Spurs and Swansea and he's a class act and not all his stats, assists goals or whatever are from set pieces. And tbh, being able to create or score goals from set pieces is a great talent to have, summat Barkley hasn't got about him!

No, I am saying statistic in football are pretty much useless regardless of player. It is not a sport that lends itself to statistical analysis. People are being blinded by science.

Barkley can create stuff! It would be churlish to say otherwise. Its also worth noting that he is not in the prime of his career like Sigurdsson.

I am not against us going for Sigurdsson at all by the way, it would be a nice signing but only because he is a good player, not because of what the statistics say.

barkley's been given corner duty himself also so well, they can be compared, we're also a bigger team than swansea and should be more threatening from set-plays. I think we could get both in the same team myself, in a christmas tree formation as well possibly if we don't use wingers.

I don't think it's about trust personally. I just think when Barkley plays in the 10 position. He doesn't run past rom enough.

Davies seems to make more positive runs. Maybe this is what RK wants from that centre position. Sigurdsson or maybe Klassen who we have been linked with, could be set for that role next season

Totally agree with you there mate and your bang on the button about Barkley not making enough runs past Lukaku from deep. Plus, he takes too many touches of the ball in midfield does Barkley and Koeman as already said he doesn't want Barkley in a deeper role, in his own half taking too many touches than necessary and risking losing the ball in dangerous areas. So I personally don't think he trusts him in there and that's why he's shifted him out wide as part of the front 3.

But Koeman prefers a 4-3-3 system and will want a more forward thinking, creative CM in there that will add goals and someone like Sigurdsson, or even Klaassen like you mention, would be ideal. Davies is in there atm, and rightly so, and he's been trying to make those late runs and get in the box but atm I don't see him as a type of player that will get us double figures in goals and assists from that position just yet. He may well turn out that kind of player but atm I see a similar kind as Gueye who will put himself about the pitch and Harry and harass players, Nick the ball and get us going, then obviously you've got Schneiderlin as the sitter, one who screens, wins ball and gets us going. We just lack that creative player who gets goals and links midfield to attack. I'm sure we all thought Barkley would be that player but I don't think Koeman sees it that way or else he wouldn't be pushing Ross wide to accommodate Davies being in the centre?!

I don't go by stats, Tbf I hate them cos like you say, they don't always show a true reflection but someone questioned me when I said I thought Sigurdsson was more productive as an attacking mid than what Barkley is so I showed how.

Well he's on a good whack now at City and he isn't going to take too much of a cut where ever he goes.

Say he demands £60K a week, Martina may only want £30K and tbh for a season I'd rather we gave £30K to Martina instead of £60K to Zabaleta and then put the other 30 grand toward say, Keane or van Dijks wages?!....
Sorry mate. Have to disagree. For one year I'd take Zabaleta on 60k pw over Martina on 30k every day of the week.

I think we need wide players, players that will give us width cos when you play a Christmas tree formation and have 2 attacking players centrally behind the CF, you rely on your FB's to provide the width and although Coleman gets forward all day long, Baines hasn't as much as he usually does and maybe his legs are getting too old for that now but also I think playing quite a narrow formation congest's the centre of the pitch in the final third. I just like to see us have pace out wide and players that make the pitch big, create space and give us an outlet.

That's fair enough mate. I just think with us wanting more class in other priority positions, I think it would be best to put the wages towards those players and not so much stop gaps in the team, which either a Martina or Zabaleta would be, imo.

Koeman may surprise us all and actually go out and get someone he sees as a long term solution to RB come the summer?....

The only way you could show that with stats is by ommiting all set piece figures from the stats mate, because set pieces don't prove anything about whose more productive as an attacking mid.

I don't usually go in for these "we should get" posts but looking at the UCL tonight and seeing Thomas Muller on the bench I can't help but think him with Lukaku and Barkley next year would be outrageous. Anyway back to reality !!
