I think we need wide players, players that will give us width cos when you play a Christmas tree formation and have 2 attacking players centrally behind the CF, you rely on your FB's to provide the width and although Coleman gets forward all day long, Baines hasn't as much as he usually does and maybe his legs are getting too old for that now but also I think playing quite a narrow formation congest's the centre of the pitch in the final third. I just like to see us have pace out wide and players that make the pitch big, create space and give us an outlet.

yeah i just meant as one option of a formation to get them both in. siggurdson would offer us that ross doesn't do and that is that he runs past the striker, that's a massive must for this team imo. I think he fits the bill perfectly for the main player we need in our starting XI.

I don't usually go in for these "we should get" posts but looking at the UCL tonight and seeing Thomas Muller on the bench I can't help but think him with Lukaku and Barkley next year would be outrageous. Anyway back to reality !!

we definitely need that type of player who scores big goals in big games though. A bit like what naismith used to do, but preferably someone a bit more talented.

The only way you could show that with stats is by ommiting all set piece figures from the stats mate, because set pieces don't prove anything about whose more productive as an attacking mid.

Which ever way you look at it, he is more productive. Being able to take a mean set piece and create goals that way is a skill in itself. Barkley as scored one FK his whole life and at corners or FK's from various positions he struggles to beat the first man so it just shows you that one as the back for it and the other doesn't, no matter how much he practices.

But Sigurdsson doesn't just assist or score from set plays. At end of the day, he will add goals to the team ,wether that's scoring or assisting and we need an extra goal threat from midfield.

Agree mate. Barkley is decent but if you watch him closely he barely makes runs into the box when the ball goes wide. Instead he he drops deep or pulls wide himself to take a pass again when he should be getting in the box to score or to try to atleast. And we lack that player in CM, someone that will break from deep and go beyond the striker and get goals and Sigurdsson does that and I think that's what Koeman is looking for.

That's fair enough mate. I just think with us wanting more class in other priority positions, I think it would be best to put the wages towards those players and not so much stop gaps in the team, which either a Martina or Zabaleta would be, imo.

Koeman may surprise us all and actually go out and get someone he sees as a long term solution to RB come the summer?....
He may do. But I think we have more important areas to improve than RB at the moment. Assuming Seamus gets back to pre injury form of course.

Chilwell has looked lively and assured in a huge game. Destined for Liverpool BUT maybe Walsh might have some influence.

Big future prospect.

Sigurdsson would net double figures in our team and I guess double figures in assists. Remember his stats currently stand up against other players, despite playing in a struggling Swansea side. Its just a pity rom won't be here, as he'd score for fun being 'fed' by Sigurdsson.

Even though I do want us to shop around Europe this summer if we do have the money there are more than enough good players in the bottom half clubs to raid to make us slot stronger

RB- Trippier thought he was very good before his move to Spurs he could easily push Coleman for a no1 spot if he doesn't come back the same from his injury.

GK: Butland/Pickford

CB- Keane probably nailed on imo

CBVan Dijk/Maguire expensive the former more realistic the latter

LB- Ben Chilwell has impressed me every game I've seen him in and he done very well tonight against a good Atletico side

LM/AM: Sigurdsson- goals and assists to add to the midfield and also has a very good FK on him- something we lack in the current side

ST- Antonio- 9 goals and 4 assists for West Ham this season- strong in the air, mobile and can play up top and out wide- doesn't want to sign a new deal at West Ham

ST- Batshuyai: not given the chance at Chelsea but has done the business in France and plays well for Belgium.

ST: Benteke/Austin: both can operate the Koeman strong Centre forward type forward

ST: on a free or low fee Rooney could be a good squad player although I wouldn't want him anywhere near the starting 11 every week, would be disappointed if so

Its probably hard to run past a striker who is stood offside though...
