Never even thought of Zabaleta! He'd be good but pricey in wages, think I'd rather give good wages to a more younger player that's gonna be around for a bit longer. Holgate is doing a job but he's no RB though. Martina just seems an obvious one because Koeman knows him, wanted him and he wouldn't be expensive.

He wanted him as a back up, then didn't bother. The right back signing this time would be starting a significant amount of games for a team aiming to achieve something. Big no for me.

Teams can also make a player the focal point. Barkley isn't the only player that creates chances. I think Sigurdsson would be a welcome addition to the team, but we haven't needed Barkley to create everything. Swansea relies on Sigurdsson

I know we don't need or rely on Barkley but when you look at it, who else creates for us? Baines chips in, Davies as. Does Mirallas much these days? Coleman does (did), Bolasie was our most creative outlet before his injury. Since the turn of the year Barkley as took up the creative mantle but Koeman doesn't trust him in CM and hence why he's shifted him wide right.

But I think Koeman wants creativity and goals from the centre of the park and is looki at Sigurdsson to give us that.

I could see a Zabaleta or Martina type signing this summer but not a younger more permanent RB signing as I think Koeman will be confident in Coleman coming back and back to his best. I think he'll give Coleman every chance to prove his fitness when he returns before deciding to bring in a permanent RB for the long term, but that's just my opinion.

Knockaert? Didn't exactly get it done for Leicester last time he came up but it has been 3 years and he was much better for Brighton than he ever was for Leicester

Didn't he get a bad injury and struggled when he returned and then they shipped him back to Belgium and Standard Liege?!

He was seen at Leicester before his injury as a better prospect than Mahrez, originally Marhez couldn't even get in the Leicester side cos of Knockaert!....

Mean nothing to me, and you'd of seen that at the end of that post your quoting. Like I said, the "stats" that interest me is how many goals and assists those players get and in roughly the same amount of games Sigurdsson as got 20 more goals than Barkley and 11-12 more assists aswell, and that's mainly for a worser team in Swansea.

As I said though those stats are not really that relevant as its two totally different scenarios.

Take the assists from corners for example. Your variables there are (but not limited to) amount of corners won during a season, ability at corners of the other players on the corner takers team, what teams the corners were won against, how good they are at defending corners etc, hell even the layout of the grounds when these corners are taken etc all effect the statistics.

Its just not a statistic driven game, never has been, but there seems to be some mad deference to them these days.

What I will say is that using the best reason to rate a player (the actually watching him play thing...) he looks a decent enough player.

No.

Williams has improved us. End of. The stats back that up/

Stekelenburg isn't good enough to be our first choice (neither is Robles) and we should definitely get a keeper in the summer.

But Stek wasn't brought in to be the number one initially.

Hold on....

So the stats back up Williams improving us but they don't back up Robles improving us? Even though they are part of the same defence and have been virtually ever present during our best run in years?

He's not good enough yet lennon and Enner are? have some perspective mate. Not being funny I don't want to sign Knockheart but when the board buys players like Williams and Steklenb we are in no position to mock brighton when they have both better GK stockdale and CB in dunk.
No they're not good enough either and will be gone in the summer thankfully. We're in Europe most likely next year mate we need more Schneiderlins not McGeadys.

So in other words your basically saying cos Sigurdsson sets up a fair amount of goals from set plays it doesn't really count against Barkley and it's not up for comparison?...

And I watch a lot of football mate and have seen a lot of Sigurdsson, from his Reading days, through to Hoffenheim, Spurs and Swansea and he's a class act and not all his stats, assists goals or whatever are from set pieces. And tbh, being able to create or score goals from set pieces is a great talent to have, summat Barkley hasn't got about him!

Good point that, on a side note anyone who really thinks Schmeichel is even close to being good enough to replace Robles didn't see how flat footed he was just then, terribly average keeper but with a great surname.

Hopefully we only need short term cover though if Seamus comes back ok. And why would Zabaleta costa mega. Cant see him being inundated with offers.

I don't think it's about trust personally. I just think when Barkley plays in the 10 position. He doesn't run past rom enough.

Davies seems to make more positive runs. Maybe this is what RK wants from that centre position. Sigurdsson or maybe Klassen who we have been linked with, could be set for that role next season

Well he's on a good whack now at City and he isn't going to take too much of a cut where ever he goes.

Say he demands £60K a week, Martina may only want £30K and tbh for a season I'd rather we gave £30K to Martina instead of £60K to Zabaleta and then put the other 30 grand toward say, Keane or van Dijks wages?!....
