That is limiting the amount of strikers we should be going after though. I mean just to name a few

Falcao (Porto + athletico)
Manduzic (spell?)
Bacca (sevilla)
Dzeko (city)
Benteke (villa)
Aguero (city)
Lebondowski (Dortmund)

Off the top of my head. None of them moved for champions league in their career before they became top stars. They were All signed up before they were household names and got their big money moves afterwards or got that champions league at their then clubs. Point is, there are many strikers out there like the above that money would buy now , they may not be the finished article but at least they are a blue before they become it and we benefit from the ability and goals.

There are thousands and thousands of strikers out there to buy. Surely we can go and buy one that isn't a world renowned name but will still be a good signing? That's what our dof and scouts are for after all and they don't seem to venture very far south of England never mind abroad
I think @Eggs hit the nail on the head - Koeman is only interested in signing a proven striker. If not the fact that we've only signed Sandro and we've got such a short time till the end of the window is poor.

In principle he is right to do so. Established players make an established squad and we need to cement our place in the league so siggurdson and the rest with experience will serve us well over 38 games.

I just feel if we had scouted over the past 12 months and identified a player like one I mentioned then we really could have cemented our long term future with the striker as well. Sandro may well prove to be a top striker in the future and we could have already signed one. I'm looking forward to seeing sandro next year after his first year bedding in, just appears we do need this cf desperately

But for every van dijk there's about 30 players that have crossed the border and been utterly amateur quality

That's why you have to trust in your scouts ability to spot the difference between a player doing well in a rubbish league and a player who is too good for the league he's playing in.

You can't just not sign players because they are in a poor league, especially when you haven't got the attraction of champions league football. We have to take calculated risks sometimes.

Reckon you could get benteke or vardy... just have to pay a lot for them. Vardy must want to play for a big team before he retires so I think he would force a move... benteke would also force a move IMO if we offered enough
Well he did play for the Premier league champions and in the Champions league
Doesn't get much bigger than that

This Kempf lad is young and has played at every youth level for Germany, fits the bill I guess. Injury history is a bit naff for a 22 year old however

I agree with this wholeheartedly. The form of Rooney and the nature of lads we've signed make me think we are quite suited to playing a "false 9" which also seems to suit Koeman's high press game. Rooney fits the role naturally, but also Klaasen could play in there, likewise Sandro could do it and even Sigurdsson. I think that's meant in part, that a proper number 9 will not be deployed every week and subsequently we can be more flexible in the quality and profile we go for. What we really need is a lad who will be happy to be a bit in and out of the team but give us a different option from the bench.

You also have to factor in Gana Gueye to this. A lad who was 27, had experience of the league but hadn't excelled, yet we saw something in him that meant he'd be a top player for us in a different system around better players. I could see a lad like Slimani perhaps doing that. He has decent pedigree abroad, good hold up skills, in his prime and will probably benefit being around better players. We'd also be able to bring him in at a price that isn't exorbitant. It's not the "wow" signing I'd hoped for ah la, Dembele or Dolberg and we can only hope we will look again to those lads in the winter or next summer. However I think he would do a decent job for us as part of squad rotation.

This will sound mad, but I'd seriously consider Fellaini if the price was right. With the lads we have around him I think he'd bring them into the game. Will be massively unpopular but would fit the profile perfectly.

Fellani is never going to happen
Jose rates him and see him as an option off the bench plus he's well over 6 ft so Jose type of player

If we've spent so much money on Sigurdsson then you would think we want a centre forward who is good in the air. The 2 forwards who scored most headed goals last season were Belotti or Mounie. Of those two Mounie was cheapest, young and available. If we weren't going to go for a proven player he'd of been worth a go. In the Premiership there's Benteke or Giroud. One doesn't want to leave and the other is injury prone. Personally if we had the money I'd of gone for Belotti, if we didn't have the money then Mounie.

Great experience for them though and may well be massively beneficial for them in the long run.

Were not hitting top 4 anyway so should be giving players experience ready to make a big push next season when we can focus on one or two big signings to push us on.
Don't agree with a lot you say, but this is my belief. Would love a top striker, but we shouldn't be fearful of using what we have.
