Lukaku was sold (I believe) as he wanted out.

We could re-invest the money in Belotti (Torino are dreadful) and I think we'd have a good chance of getting him for substantially lower than his 85mil buyout clause...he'd be one of the best in the league immediately and has a long career ahead of him.

The alternative as I have always said is to go for a young player, now do we either go (back?) in for Keite Balde and have a 3 pronged attack with one (Sandro?) as a false 9 or straight in for dolberg as more of a traditional centre forward? Both of these are potential world class players and were not getting top 4 this season so it makes sense to transition these young lads through for a year before they hit their full stride in a season.

As a side note, people are saying dembele at celtic wont be sold as hes injured...medicals still go through if theyre almost recovered and in a week or so he'll be almost there.

No hidden gems I'm afraid, if we want to be serious we go for Belotti, Dolberg or Keita in that order.

Thing is, I think other clubs have thought like you and thought they could possibly get Belotti for cheaper than his release clause but the rumours on him have gone quiet because they couldn't! Torino don't seem to want to budge on the price and have scared teams off.

Keita Balde isn't a through the middle, target man type CF that Koeman is now looking for, a genuine No.9 to lead the line. He's more of a wide forward and although he'd be a great buy, he's not what Koeman is looking for. Plus he wants Juve. Now IF that did eventually happen, he plays in the position Mandzukic is currently occupying, if he took his place and Mandzukic became available, would people be happy with him? I know he's getting on these days but he's still a very good player!

As for Dolberg I can't see Ajax now being prepared in letting him go. It seems as though it was one from him, Sanchez or Ziyech they were willing to let go for big money and that has been Sanchez to Spurs so it seems Ajax don't want to lose anymore top players this summer, although IF they get knocked out of Europe by Rosenberg next week then that could change everything, especially players mind sets about staying?!.....

What about Patrik Schick for our striker target? Not a target man but a good size and still physically developing. Has some real flair and quality on the ball for someone his size, some pace aswell. After Juve pulled out because of a heart condition it's mainly Inter after him, apparently Roma now aswell. The heart condition is believed to be no big issue. We should be in there, looks real quality for the price he's going for, apparently he has a buy-out clause of €25 million. Only 21yo. Better player then most striker suggestions I'm seeing. If there's no real quality players in their prime available, we should go for young quality like Schick who is good now and only going to get better

Wouldn't mind Schick at all but it seems he will move to another Serie A side...

The lack of striker links suggest to me there is somebody lined up but its not yet out in the open, i keep going back to that picture of Walsh in Italy and think he must of been there for someone but who knows who that someone is.

He's not Italian, and only been in Italy for a season I believe so I can't imagine he has any strong links to the country. Its does seem to only be Italian clubs linked though. Wages, and the "prestige of the premier league" are 2 potential lures we could use for a player his age and profile. Get Koeman to sell him on the project

That's a new one, whose he?!...... :p

Bit surprised that the Willian Jose links have gone very quiet, he seems the very kind of CF that Koeman likes, someone to lead the line and link play. I'm not overly keen on Dost and he wouldn't come cheap either. Jorgensen is an intriguing one. Another with good hold up play and doing well for Feyenoord but previously he wasn't great at his other clubs, but neither was Pelle until Koeman took him under his wing!.....
It's unreal. I screw it up half the time. Movie is Das Boot, player is Bas Dost.

Dost would score goals, but yeah, not sure how well he'd bring people into the game, link up play, etc.

Jose is super talented, just think in the right team he could be close to an elite player, but he is still a risk. Wonder if Sandro thinks he's just a lot better than Jose, or we just think Jose is not a finished product. But he really seems to give us a lot of what I think we need.

Mandzukic would be the perfect fit. Not sure he likes playing out wide for that club, but hey, it's Juve. At his age, you'd think Juve would want to cash in, too. He's Costs like in terms of pure annoyance, without being a team killer. Plus, it'd [Poor language removed] the Split supporters, so can we make that happen this week?

Seriously who is going to sell a quality centre forward with two weeks to go in the window, we need to make a bid to unsettle someone right about now.

Don't know why but I get the feeling there could be a twist in the Giroud situation. One the bench again yesterday and they have Liverpool next with Sanchez back and I can't see him starting that game either and he can't surely be happy about that. Plus he said himself he wouldn't want another season of being mainly on the bench, which its started out that way for him again and there's a World Cup coming up next year so he needs to be starting games every week nearly to keep his place in the France team/squad so IF he is on the bench again next weekend, I think things could change on the Giroud front, especially if we make enough of a noise about wanting him!

Begs the question tho, why wait til now when all other business of any meaning including Lukaku was done so early ? CF is a pivotal position that ultimately needs filling.

I realise this might not be popular, but right now I think we should be all over Chris Wood for the £15m Burnley look likely to sign him for.

Exactly the type of player Koeman wants, affordable (heck he's only going to cost half a Johnny Evans in this loopy transfer market!), he's about the right age, realistic (some of the shouts on here are crazy with players people think we should be signing) & would surely jump at the chance of a move here. Plus, getting a target man in at a reasonable cost allows us to look at having funds for left back cover & a much needed left sided centre half.

Not good enough for top end premier league football. Will do ok for someone like Burnley but for a team like us he just isn't good enough. He's been with both West Brom & Leicester whilst they've been in the premier league and after good loan stints away from those clubs where he's banged the goals in, he's gone back and not got a look in cos he's just not quite up to it.

I get that he's improved at Leeds but not enough to be our main striker....

Why? Who else is gonna come in who's realistic, affordable and would want to come?

Honestly, I'd rather we went with what we've got if someone like Wood is our only shot left! If we can't get someone like Giroud or Benteke, established prem strikers or up and coming talents like a Do,berg or Dembele, then no point just making do with someone. Go with what we've got and scout the hell out of all leagues possible to find the right man ahead of January!

no idea i agree it makes little sense you would think buy a striker first and then build the attack around him and not the other way round
