Going from Lukaku to Slimani is akin to going from Knightsbridge to Luton. You seem to think there's no centre or choice in the entire world.

Anyone calling slimani better than even DCL (whose had 1-1.5 decent games) is wrong. That's a fact and backed up by stats which show him to have one motm award to slimani having zero in this league in how many games....

When did DCL get his MOM? Don't say city... because he MAY have been our best player but he wasn't the best player on the pitch ...

Love the hyperbole Zat but that doesn't change the fact that we're operating under constraints as far as getting another striker of similar quality in.

Shall we go back down memory lane and remember the only reason we ever got a player of his quality was because we loaned him originally and he couldn't oust the players ahead of him at his parent club, he had a successful loan and wanted to start somewhere and we had just finished 5th and looked to be on the rise.

We've since finished 7th, we already have two strikers meaning that there will be competition for places so it is unlikely we will look to reproduce what happened with Lukaku and sign a promising young player who can't get an opportunity at his current club because unless they offer something very different or are better than Sandro and Rooney at what they offer then some youngster is not going to be getting guaranteed starts here and would probably look elsewhere.

We're looking for a finished product of a player now, we've got promise in DCL but we need someone to come in and do the business for us today.

Lukaku was a once in two decades type of striker for us and we were lucky he chose to sign with us. I'm sure we've got the money for the right type of player but there doesn't seem to be a lot out there fitting what we want:

  • Good goalscoring numbers
  • Good in the air
  • Experienced
  • Wants to come to us rather than hedge their bets and wait for a CL team
Find someone matching those qualities and let Walsh know. You can spend all day and night talking about Dolberg but it is a waste of time if he wouldn`t be willing to come here.

Can you name who you would sign that would actually come here and make you happy?

I think that anyone who watched the 2014 world cup would be quite excited at the prospect of Slimani joining us, he may not have had an amazing season at Leicester but he did OK and as many foreign players take a year to settle in to the premier it could mean Leicester have done that work for us. Hes always looked decent when I saw him last year and he looked top draw in the last world cup. Id be happy to give him a try

this is a cut from the Standard from before he signed for Leicester

What type of striker is he – is he a reliable finisher?

"Islam Slimani is not a simple penalty box striker," Beneddra. "The 27-year-old regularly drops deep to offer different avenues for the midfield , especially when with the Algeria national team. He acts as an anchor to the attacking play, using his physical strength to dominate opposition defenders and hold up possession. Since standing out at the World Cup in 2014 for his clinical finishing, Slimani has made tremendous progress, scoring 12 goals in 16 starts last term and seven in 10 so far this season."

It is a team game.
It is about what is best for the team. Of course everybody wanted Lukaku to stay, but he wouldn't and in truth the team set up when Lukaku was playing was not a formation that Koeman would naturally pick.
Koeman wants more of a team effort with goals and responsibilities more evenly shared.

Most successful team are going to have a blend of age and experience and the players with experience are key. The manager said this at the start of the window when he said the he needed to recruit players in their prime in their mid to late teens.

Anybody who has managed teams in any sport at almost any level will be aware of what experience and leadership brings.
Managers will know what strengths they need to bring to their team and the areas that need it.

Picking a team on a forum such as this is easy, and everybody is entitled to their opinion.
But, we should all remember that nobody with even half a brain will take it too seriously.

Being the best player on the pitch is worse than scoring a goal.

Intelligence
I feel measuring them on MOTM awards isn't accurate either. Slimani had the likes of Vardy and Mahrez to contend with and if they play equally as well as him then he could miss out. I'm sure a few decent players at Real Madrid have missed out on MOM awards despite having a blinder because Ronaldo got it instead!

Not that I am defending Slimani - merely pointing out that there must be better ways of comparing players.
