Summer Transfer Window 2017

I think it's clear that we won't be bringing any big-name striker in, and are going to have to compromise significantly, but I still hope we can get someone in who could at least have a decent crack at getting 12-15 goals.

Same for LB cover, it won't be anyone of significance, but we need cover there as well.

If we get two more in plus Vlasic, on top of the business we have already done, then I'll consider the overall window a qualified success.

If we don't get a striker in, then it's yet another thundering disappointment for us fans, and huge question marks over what is it we actually want to acheive this year.

With the sales, I think we were always going to be hard pushed to achieve a big net-spend, and that's coming from someone who considers it relatively more important than others.

At present, I would have more questions to ask regarding Walsh and Koeman regarding the selection of targets, particularly of Walsh as the signings to date haven't really included anyone in the more obscure/cheaper/younger category who would be first-team squad ready, apart from potentially Vlasic.
Serious questions need to be asked if we don't get a striker in at the very least. We've needed to sign a striker for 2 years now. The last 4 weeks Koeman has constantly said we need a striker. After a GK it was probably the most important position on the pitch so how we've got to this point without one – it will be unforgivable and will taint all the good work we have done this summer is we fail to get someone in.

If we don't have a great deal of money - and I think our financial "strength" is massively overplayed - it would seem like utter madness to have bought both Sigurdsson and Klaassen knowing that we also need a top class centre forward

Yes I agree, one of those at present looks like an unnecessary and expensive luxury. Klaassen will probably be the scapegoat which would be unfair as when he settles in he'll do well I think.

£70m combined is eye-watering even in the present market. Some of that money could have gone towards the striker we need.

Batshuayi is not really what we need, his hold up play is crap and not sure how good he is in the air...I'd take him though.

I'm doing what i always do with Everton mate, preparing for the worst case scenario now, it's never let me down in the past doing that as the club never fails to disappoint on that regard.

Noticed that the usual 'itk' twitterazzi have already started to spout lines about the club hierarchy old guard being the problem, nic eand convenient excuse ofc, and one wonders if they are such a problem then why has the new owner decided to leave them inc harge in positions where they can actually hamper things.

the hiring of a DOF should have instantly given us the separation between CEO/Chairman being able to effectively hamper recruitment, if it hasn't then we have either hired the wrong man (i hope not as i like Walsh), have not given him adequate power to do his job without interference (which is 100% on Moshiri if that is the case), or have an owner who is too weak to actually force his will onto people like Kenwright and Elstone - which is of the three the most alarming scenario.

OFC this all could change in the next day and a half, but only a blind optimist would predict it will
Apart from Lukaku we dont have a history of being deadlone day winnners I agree. Fingers crossed but Im not optimistic at the moment. There are players available like Dendoncker who I think will be boss. Cant see why we wouldnt go after somebody like him whose beenflashing his knickers our way. Also the striker concerns me greatly.

Do any of those players get you off your seat when they receive the ball mate?

May sound a silly question, but in some ways i don't think it is.

I wouldn't say the issue is late deals either btw, i would say the issue is deliberately leaving 'attempts' at deals late, because frankly that gives a lovely excuse of running out of time - an excuse which a lot of people do indeed accept.

But unfortunately for too long Ross hasn't done that either... as much as I think he improved overall last season

But yes, if we have 'deliberately' left deals late, then that's ridiculous. I'm not sure we have though. I think there has been a genuine willingness to try and make sure we get our (or the manager's) no.1 targets in.

And since it's what Koeman was promised, he seems determined to make sure people follow through on it.

Dzeko or Das Boat
Felipe Anderson
Grimaldo or Tierney
Tah

Easy that @SteveWalsh get it sorted before you're back teaching PE next week.

Will laugh my head off if we get a positive net spend. Will be worse than anything Kenwright ever did for us. Not only will Moshiri have got rid of three of our biggest talents (four if you include Stones, and add him to Barkley, Deulofeu and above all Lukaku), but he'll have made a healthy profit by weakening our squad and turning us into a middle-of-the-table outfit.

I think we now are in the "last minute loan" situation, same like Valencia last year, someone like Batshuayi or Welbeck or even lower team's 4th choice striker.

As I said last night, unless we hear some solid links by later this evening then that'll be concerning.

Tinfoil hat firmly planted on my head - does anyone else think that Mosh being pally with Jim White could potentially mean that we'd save any significant development/annoucement until tomorrow night?
