Summer Transfer Window 2017

I get that some people rate him

I'm not saying he's a bad player. He's alright, and he'd improve our set pieces by about a million percent but if you watch him, he doesn't really add much to what we already have from open play. He's a decent enough player, but not the level where he takes us up a notch which I thought was what we were aiming for.

Why be so obsessed with what he can do from open play rather than be happy that he adds assists from dead ball situations? Because as an attacking player I want him to contribute to opening up an opposing defence or scoring himself, otherwise he's a potentially a passenger for 90% of a game. His goal record is ok but he takes pens and free kicks (admittedly very well).

He's a perfectly decent player, but if he is Barkley's replacement, for example, I don't think it's a particularly big upgrade, and that's what I'd like to see us aiming to do.

There's too much smoke for there not to be a fire as far this transfer goes, we've been linked with him for the last 12 months, so I'm sure we have real interest in him. I just hope our expectations of him are realistic.

I'm not even saying I don't think we should be buying him, just that he isn't as good as a lot of people on here have been making out

Broadly i just dont agree with you mate, the opinion is that all he can offer from is dead ball delivery just isnt correct he has vision and the technica ability to pick a pass and a key pass, spliting a defence of foundation for attack, it is correct to say he has good set piece or deadball delivery. But after watching him over many seasons and again the whole game Vs Sunderland today he is an out and out playmaker.

Its like saying Arteta and Baines were only good at set pieces which they were but there is far much more to his game to that. The only comparable players to him are all playing in the CL, which is where we aspire.

I would be interested to hear your opinion on wo would be a better or more desirable option as opposed to Siggy.

Lloris is 6'2".

Schmeichel won the league and is 6'1".

Pickford's height is a non starter.

Keylor Navas - Real Madrid - 6ft 1"
Claudio Bravo - 6ft 1"
Ter Stegen - Barca - 6ft 1.5"
Jan Oblak (either 6ft 1" or 6ft 2.5" depending on where you look!)

Yes there are plenty taller, and few shorter, but the top clubs in the world seem to be able to field goalkeepers of this height

Btw, as I mentioned in my original post - apparently less than 10 assists from open play in his entire PL career before this season. I don't think Llorente has anything to with it. But - you may be right in that in a different/better team with more movement and quality in attacking areas, his productivity may improve. We won't know until he is given the opportunity but all I would say is that there is little evidence to support the theory that I can find

Can we verify this please, seems like a bit of hyperbole to me i.e. the assists from open play.

Case closed your honor.

The debate for me is he actually a good keeper? His distribution and footballing ability seems off the charts...but I'm not sure he's an above average keeper (yet).

A bit like being seduced by Stones' sexy football but he was a mistake waiting to happen as a defender.

Relegation looms when you couple the fat pie that is Harry Maguire with this clown:

Even top players have bad games mate. And if you read my post, I'm not saying bring in Maguire and van Dijk as a partnership, bring in van Dijk to go straight in and bring in someone like Maguire for competition.

Yes I know mate most of the time he's correct; in essence he just makes a recap of what was in the Belgian newspapers. He's just saying what was in Le Soir and other newspapers. He could have just linked to the RSCA press conference with TIelemans or such and there the RSCA general manager gave the same information.

Anyhow Monaco would be the logical choice; his kind of football, same language ... The other teams who're trying to hijack this transfer will find it difficult to dissuade him.

Hmm, plus if their going to lose the likes of Silva & Bakayoko then Tielemans would get games there and be playing at a good level and in the CL aswell.
