Mirror saying we've agreed a £25m fee with Swansea for Siggurdson, but his wage demands of £120k p/w could scupper any deal.

Why do we think we can sign good players but not pay the wages that good players want?

What utter bollocks. We would be well aware of what his wage demands are and would most likely be more than happy to pay it, especially if $120k. Rubbish article.

The fact the Trinity-Mirror group are the owners of the Echo and the story was released at 00:01, suggests to me it is information supplied directly to them from the club. It was obviously embargoed until we passed midnight. It wouldn't surprise me at all if we agree a fee and enter talks with Sigurdsson on the same day we accept a bid from Spurs for Barkley. The fact Spurs were making noises about Sigurdsson last week, very much seemed like a strategy to force Everton's hand on Barkley, as they know he is one of our key priorities. From the club's point of view it helps to deflect from Barkley moving on. Obviously the window doesn't open until July 1st, so I'm unsure if this would prevent us taking ownership of a new player before this date. It may simply just mean that we can't register the player with the FA until that date.

You are indeed correct, our record with getting signings over the line isnt great.

Nothing would ever make me believe a word the mirror chatted though.

Theres a reason they are banned from the site.
I know what you mean mate, they are terrible. They also hate us for some reason.

I just always tend to go with the gloom option when it comes to us.

Expect nothing and then you can't be disappointed is my Everton motto!

The Times are running the same Gylfi story. Seems wages are the only hold up. Encouraging.

Everton are understood to have agreed a fee of £25 million with Swansea City for Gylfi Sigurdsson — but the midfielder has rejected the Merseyside club’s offer of £100,000 a week in wages.

Sigurdsson scored nine and created 13 league goals as he helped to steer Swansea away from relegation. The Iceland international earns about £80,000 a week at Swansea but is holding out for an increase to £130,000 to join Everton.

Swansea accept that their 27-year-old playmaker is certain to leave and have had interest from other Premier League clubs, including Southampton. Sigurdsson was voted player of the year for a second consecutive season by Swansea supporters last week and also won the award for the players’ player of the year."

The ultimate Everton motto is 'Everton, that' ...but we kind'a love them for their idiosyncratic ineptitude
