...thoughts are up the East Lancs Rd this morning but some newspaper rumours;

- Sky are saying the new Barcelona manager will decide whether to pay £10m for Deulofeu.

- Various outlets are reporting a £25m fee has been agreed with Swansea for Sigurdsson but the player is demanding £120k per week.

- Spanish publications suggest Sandro is joining Atletico.

- The Star and others say Manchester United are interested in Barkley and might bid £20m.

£130k p/w for Sigurdsson?! You having a laugh you Icelandic void. He's pretty good but at his age expecting a £50k p/w raise is absurd. Swerve.

Also, talking to the Spurs lads in my office, none of us can even see why they'd go for Barkley or why he'd consider them. Not a single player in their starting XI he's better than.

I think we've set a precedent by offering Rom £140k a week. Everyone wants some of it.

I don't mind the idea of signing him but £25m and making him by far our highest earner would upset the balance. Fair few more players in the squad would expect a raise as well.

....personally, I'm not bothered by salary. They are all telephone numbers anyway and £120k is some way off what top clubs are paying their players. I think our pay structure will look very different in 18 months time which might be why we tied up the likes of Tom Davies and D C-L.

That's why most of them either have new contracts signed or a few years left on theirs.
This could be why ROSS is holing out to see what others are offered.
Also why the club want him signed up for 100k while we spend more on others
Wonder how Rom will survive on 70 k a week, will he sign a new improved contract with a buyout clause more to our liking

The reason I'm so against £130k p/w is because that's higher than anyone in the Spurs squad so successful is achievable without that amount of money being thrown around on half decent players.

I've watched Spurs since the '50s, they had the greatest double winning side of all time, and we took their mantle 2 years later. Spurs can
boast Greaves, Mackay & Blanchflower, .......... Hoddle, Waddle & Gascoigne, and latterly,........... Modric & Bale.True world class!
Even United would struggle to beat that line up. This Spurs team now this season, were out 4th round League Cup, the F.A. Cup the first
Prem club they played, the Champions League easiest group and finished 3rd, beaten in first game of Europa Cup by Gent (Without an 'H') ,
and runners up to John Terrys boot boys. I do believe the current coincidence that this Spurs team are not a patch on the '61 Double side,
as in Scotland the current Celtic side who have won just about everything, are still not a patch on the Lisbon Lions. If and when Ross leaves
us, I hope that he will go to someone that appreciates him. Ross! you've brought me nothing but JOY. GOOD LUCK MY SON.

Helps if you have the top scorer in the league on your books since he was 3. He can set the bar.

If we want to haul ourselves up to the top table in short order, we are going to have to start paying over the odds.

Success can be built more slowly, but Moshiri has talked about there being a narrow window of time to close the gap.

A cautionary note on throwing big wages at players...

Transfer fees are easier to get around for FFP and STCC because you can spread them over the length of the contract

Wages are less so. Every £20k per week is £1 million per year. There is no getting around wages from a FFP perspective, so whilst we have increased capacity to pay better money these days, we still need to be careful about how much we spend as there is only a finite amount we can spend on wages. Moshiri's big pockets make little difference as the amount is based on our revenue - better Sky deal, new sponsors and other commercial deals will make a difference, but we do need to be relatively sensible about it.

Elstone has already advised, “Projected wages are set to increase significantly in the current season, reflecting a further commitment to player recruitment and new contracts for existing players.” The AGM forecast a wage bill of £111 million for 2016/17, an increase of £27 million.

What's that 5 or so players on £100k a week?

Unfortunately I feel that unless Walsh is able to get some real gems then we will struggle to convince players on the plan and the dream without offering huge wages, as we did last summer.

Players just have to look at the situation for Rom and Ross.

Don't care what other teams pay their players tbh.

But Gylfi won't get 130k a week and I'm pretty sure the Mirror have plucked that number out of thin air.

I look at numbers all day at work, when it comes to Everton I couldn't care less what we're paying who as long as we have the best team possible. I'll leave the clubs financials in the hands of our accountant billionaire thanks!
