Summer Transfer Window 2017

@davek will give you that siggurdson would be a good addition in the summer, we also need someone with genuine pace and consistancy on top of him though

Seem tielmans mentioned, but unless mistaken he's another central mid - albeit a different kind to what we have. Who makes room if he arrived?

Cbs a big must and two of them needed, besides that we need a lb competition for Baines - one with pace who we can rotate for certain games
Tielemans is getting a lot of publicity. Problem is we don't really know how good he is, playing in a league that is probably not even as competitive as the Championship. Some of his goals are top drawer, but you could show a video of Kieran Dowell's goals from the second half of last season and it would be equally as impressive.

He is one of the most sought after young players around though and personally, if we had an opportunity to buy him, I would sell McCarthy to go for it. Probably be a net outlay of around £5m. For me, McCarthy is too similar to Gana and Schneids and Tielemans would offer you that something different from midfield.

I remember Barkley rampaging against Liverpool in his first big derby. Dropped back deeper second half after a reshuffle and he frightened the life out of them. It turned the match around and although it ended 3-3 and Lukaku scored two, Barkley was the big difference.

I remember him not rampaging against six or seven other sides that and the following two seasons though Dave. His current run is probably the most consistently threatening he's ever been for us, and that's reflected both in his personal numbers and our overall form. You've got mad blinkers on here.

Overall, I see the balance between the work rate and creativity going from 30% / 70% respectively prior to Koemans arrival to 60% / 40% now. That to me is going in the wrong direction for a team crying out for creativity and vision on the ball.

Yep, long thought he was wasted off the striker. No manager has had the balls to play him deep. We probably created 6 or 7 great chances in that Derby, if Deulofeu could have finished we would have been out of site. Another game was the QPR game at home we won 3-0 with Barkley deep. He can do it, we'll never see it though because the modern manager will not countenance opening up the midfield at all so plodders like Dier and Henderson will always get in there for England and Neville Barry McCarthy Gueye Schneiderlin etc. will always be given a chance over Barkley in that spot.

I agree that we shouldn't have got rid of Deulefeu without bringing in somebody similar during the transfer window. Whether he has a long term future with us or not, he offered something different from the bench that we don't have now. Wouldn't have made any difference yesterday but may have done away to Stoke and Middlesborough.

I dont know how you can say that with authority though. It only takes one delivery at 2-1 down and it's all to play for.

His contribution has been limited even in relation to last season.

Chasing around is not being threatening.

Agree with that, I don't know what people are expecting us to do though coz we're going to be given £30 mill tops in the summer if we're lucky and creative players is never a priority with us although we need atleast 2 of them.

Eh? Surely we will spend more than that, you thinking pre Moshiri? 50 million should be the bare minimum we can spend if he has any ambition.

If you're referring to Osako, then yes.

The major difference between us and Spurs yesterday was the creative players they can turn to. In fact, that's the major difference between us and all those above us. We have bucket loads of sweat and endeavour but nothing, short of Barkley getting on the ball and doing something out of left field now and again, in terms of creativity. Our team's character is all about hard working and it's simply not enough.

For once Dave, I wholeheartedly agree. Kev and Del were never consistent enough or arsed enough and Lookman will not be ready for a while. We need a couple of really good and creative attacking midfielders/wingers.

I feel Davies should be used in a more attacking way and has so much potential. The way he runs past players and the vision he has means he is more than capable of a role like this but needs time.

I also think we have to get two new cbs and I cannot understand why Pennington is not being integrated into the first team so we can bench mori forever.

Our team's character is all about hard working and it's simply not enough. Which is why ridding us of a player like Deulofeu made no sense, btw. However inconsistent he was he did offer us the odd bit of flair and creation that could work for us. Now we have a lot of hard runners and little more. Playing that quartet of CMs yesterday just hammered home the hard work / creativity imbalance in this team he's building.

As for 'we need LB competition for Baines'. Sorry, we need a LB - period.
Great post, couldn't agree more. The top 6 all have creative players that can open up teams in a heartbeat. Unfortunately that costs big money to get those creative players that make such a difference.
Further to your point, we don't easily look as threatening at our set pieces compared to even lesser teams, as we don't have anyone who can consistently produce quality balls into the box from corners and set pieces. In my mind that is partly one reason I'd love sigurdsson. He dead ball delivery is superb as his his ability to create space for others. I really think sigurdsson is under rated and is harshly judged by many for his time at Spurs.

If someone doesn't rate Sigurdsson they dont like football.

I hope the project for season one has been to get some much needed discipline and energy into the team and that season two's project is to get some creativity back into the ranks. Hard running is all well and good, but when you face - as we did yesterday - a team that matches that but also has players with vision, it's limitations are obvious (of course, it diidn't help that the manager shat his kecks at the prospect of having a proper go at Spurs).

Maybe we didn't have the personnel to have 'a real go at Spurs'. As you said hopefully this we be addressed with more creative players brought to the club in future windows, but also some much needed pace added to our defence.

We'll need a good summer. Last summer left us with gaping holes in the squad for this season.
Hopefully Walsh has seen the 'gaping holes' not only in the squad, but also the starting 11. Let's be frank last summer's window was a disaster and the usual line about potential targets not available in January put about. There can be no excuses this summer, Walsh has had 12 months to identify players that we need. I'd go with
GK
2 CB (starter and another as back up)
LM
Second striker
Creative no. 10.

I'd argue 3 CB's.

It was a freebie. We had nothing to lose. Just go for it. Koeman didn't though, and I suspect it's the reason Moyes didn't go for it against so called big teams in the past: too concerned with preserving his own reputation and not wanting a tonking to damage it.
