It does strike me as a very Lars Jacobsen-type signing

Nobody in the six teams above us would consider bringing Martina in as cover

I understand the reasoning, we don't want a really quality player who would stand in the way of Kenny and/or Holgate's development

if he signs him he'll pick this clown ahead of kenny guaranteed

ask yourself would anyone in the top 6 sign martina as back up. he utter crap and its a signing (if it happens) that shows we're still stuck in the smalltime mentality from the moyes era

City signed richard wright and stuart taylor as backup keepers not so long ago, just to put this signing into perspective

The swerve he put on this one was quite nice...I fail to understand how signing a backup with prem experience on a free when our alternative is Holtgate has people upset. Not every signing is going to be a top player. We're not Real.

And I fail to understand why some people are happy to welcome mediocre players to the club whose presence will stunt the development of our younger players.

The group of English lads now at the U20 world cup (with Everton players at the heart) have consistently beaten the likes of Belgium Holland Germany and Spain over the years. Only France are more highly rated and we even beat them on the last two meetings.

Many in here are drooling over young players from these countries who just happen to have been given a chance at their ckubs. But we have better players already here in our U23s. They just need to be given an opportnity.

This.

But the fact remains, we need a big squad. Honestly, most people just can't help a whinge.

He's coming in (if he does so) as cover for Seamus who is out until 2018.

Holgate isn't a right-back. He's done very well there but he's a CB and his best games have come when played as the RCB in a three-man defence. He will still be utilised at right-back but Martina gives us a different option at the least.

Same goes for Kenny. The lad has just turned 20 and has played two PL games - both sub appearances. He looks the part but it would be a risky move to have all the pressure on two young lads heading into a season where we could - and should - be aiming to play well over 50 games.

This is common sense. Please people, get a grip.

The fact that so many people are happy with Martina coming to us proves that a high percentage of people here have literally zero understanding of football. He's a terrible defender, gets beaten very easily, bombs upfield then jogs back again, doesn't go in for 50-50s etc etc

I will trust Walsh and Koeman to bring in the right players that we need. If half of them turn out to be gash then it's time to fume. Until then, I'll trust their judgement.

I didn't even know he existed until his name came up on here.

Can anyone tell me what his FIFA rating is ?.

I'll go and ask my lad what he thinks and then make my decision.

Twente fans were laughing when Saints signed him he's that gash.

Or.
It could be that Ronald Koeman, the manager, knows more about football and footballers than you do.

If, you are RK , and spend time lurking on this site, then ignore the previous comment.

its not common sense, its filling the squad with crap! would someone like ajax buy a jarg right back who'd struggle to start for a bottom half team or give their kids a chance to prove themselves. its a signing thats all thats wrong with english football. sign some crap foreign journeyman player instead of having faith in youngsters.
