I will trust Walsh and Koeman to bring in the right players that we need. If half of them turn out to be gash then it's time to fume. Until then, I'll trust their judgement.

Our signings are meant to be better each year though. I'd rather take the plunge and call him out as a bad signing now. Good if he isn't that bad for us, yet he hasn't been good anywhere.

This signing would have raised eyebrows last year. The more worrying thing for me is that Koeman and Walsh will have agreed to this if he signs. This will be a Koeman pick so looking to Walsh to say "Not having this one".

Walsh needs to know this ain't Leicester. Koeman can do better. But this is just rumour at this stage so better to just react accordingly when deals happen.

Or.
It could be that Ronald Koeman, the manager, knows more about football and footballers than you do.

If, you are RK , and spend time lurking on this site, then ignore the previous comment.

The most ridiculous statement I've seen on here in weeks.
How could RK possibly know more about football than the posters on here.
As far as I'm aware he has never played FIFA much less own a copy.
Plus his house doesn't have a box room

Fair enough. Stand corrected on that.
Either way, Martina was cover for Southampton, I don't have a problem having him as cover here for the reasons I said.

Not on a high horse at all, I've got a reasonable side to why I think this does make sense. Does it excite me? Christ no! But does it make sense, absolutely. If he ends up being backup to Kenny then great.
You say "we need to sign good footballers to progress" and i totally agree, but we're not about to buy someone incredible for every position on the pitch. Regardless of what money we may/may not have we can only shell out a certain amount and we need to use that in the most needed areas - Rom/Ross replacement/backup, GK etc. I don't see RB as somewhere we need to spend a fortune as a priority

The high horse bit was actually aimed at a couple of others not you mate though I didn't make that clear.

I agree that we can't expect to spend on quality everywhere, but I'd like to think after a whole year Koeman and Walsh could've put their heads together and found someone other than the lad who isn't good enough for Saints that they almost signed last year. Like Spurs bought Trippier as backup for Walker, we should be nicking a lower prem's first choice or a top young one from the championship.

Or trust me I've watched this guy a lot and he is a long way from the standard we need. Saints fans loathe him.
I put earlier that if he comes it will be to keep his agent sweet.

its not common sense, its filling the squad with crap! would someone like ajax buy a jarg right back who'd struggle to start for a bottom half team or give their kids a chance to prove themselves. its a signing thats all thats wrong with english football. sign some crap foreign journeyman player instead of having faith in youngsters.

But Ajax play in a tosh league...

And it isn't to displace the youngsters. It's to give an experienced option as an alternative to the youngsters if they aren't playing well/are struggling to adapt.

I really don't think they 'loathe' him.

He's not great. Nobody is saying he is.

But it's a sensible signing.

The lad has Prem experience, and will offer an alternative at a position we need cover for purely because our first-choice is injured.

When he's fit, nobody is displacing Seamus - rightly so - so it's about having a few players we can alternate there until he returns.

Holgate, Kenny, Martina looks like three options which will help see us through.

He plays on the opposite side pal...

How many times have you watched Martina play, out of interest?

hes played right back too.
2 or 3, are you trying to tell me if i watch him loads i'll see hes really under-rated and should be starting every game for southampton and liverpool will be after him to replace clyne soon
