It really isn’t meaningless. It may be boring, but that is neither here nor there.

How much profit a club makes on a player isn’t derived from the sale value less the purchase value, but the sale value less the book value at the time of sale.

If we buy a player for £50m and sell one year later for £60m the profit to the P&L is £20m (the book value after purchase having decreased by 1/5 assuming a 5 year deal).

If we buy a player for £7m and sell 4 years later for £30m the profit is £28.6m.

Ultimately this gives us more wiggle room when tackling the likes of FFP.

Ok, it’s not meaningless, but good decisions about transfers aren’t made starting from the accounting perspective.

Brands isn’t looking at players to buy and sell and making his decisions based on how it affects the books. I’m sure it factors, but it’s secondary or tertiary.

So who’s a good player, what’s a good price, is this the best decision he can make for the squad right now. Let the bean counters fix the rest.

With both de ligt and Griezmann confirmed transfer window should start moving quicker
Over a 'kin cliff preferably........scrap the farce and allow all year round........created for idiots on Sky to feel important and fans to be led up the garden path by so called itks.....;):)

....yep, in Paphos but a very nice all inclusive we visit once per year with great booze and food. Saying that, will certainly look your recommendation up, Matey.
