Find the idea of a right back on loan a bit weird to be honest. Thought Coleman was pretty good last season (certainly the last few months) and doesn't really need replacing. Can see the point in bringing in a younger player to take over from him but not really in having a loan coming in for the short term.

Rakitic link is way out of left field. He's not the kind of midfielder we need, is he? And he's 31. If there's ANYTHING to it at all it might be that Barca are shopping him around and came to us as we have previously hoovered up their fringe players. Can't see it happening.

I don't think we have a chance of getting him at all. But, you said 'is he what we need'........ he is far superior to anything we have in the squad, he is exactly what we need!

Depends really, I'm guessing we can't keep spending £30m this summer on players, so getting one on loan that we'll complete next summer makes sense. I mean, it seems stupid to send Kenny out if we're just going to develop someone else's player, like you say.

Possibly not deemed to be an area that urgently needs strengthening this season and just requires better cover than we have - MARTINA

I don't agree, I think if we get the right player on loan they could become first choice.
Coleman is nearly 31, he could fall off a cliff form wise.

Genuine competition is needed, not a kid or makeshift rb.

I don’t think that’s all tied up tbh, lots of reports saying other clubs could come in and outbid us

I think people got carried away with the reports. From what I’ve read there might be some sort of agreement in principle but nothing signed and other clubs were monitoring with a view to making approaches.

I think consistency will be a significant part in the decision making process: while Coleman had a good end to the season, he was poor for swathes of the season.

Understandably, I know people will talk about injuries being a factor, but it's been similar for a few seasons and with him being 31 in October then cover is prudent.

He's been a great player for the club and deserves respect and applause, however sentiment can't cloud the club's judgement like it did with Baines for so long.

I think we'll already be looking for a replacement in the long-term, so if it isn't appropriate to do that now then short-term cover is quite a sensible idea.

This idea that footballers suddenly lose the ability to play at 30 is hilarious and annoying in equal measure. He's no more likely to lose form than anybody else just because he's 30. Arias that people are talking about getting in turns 28 this year aswell so no point getting him because in 2 years he might be dead.

bye bye joe williams

another loser out the door
This is a very ungracious comment.

I have no knowledge of the lad, but I'm certain he's just had a 'set-back' when it comes to fulfilling his dream of playing pro-football at the highest of levels by dropping down the league structure to Wigan (who have probably made a very shrewd signing alongside Robinson). This isn't being a loser to me, this is just one step on his journey to showing he can be a winner.

99.9% of us posting are losers if this is the standard you set. I wish Joe all the best, and hope he proves Everton were wrong to let him go.

I don’t know what the current running totals are for player purchases and sales but I think we will end up breaking even or maybe even seeing a slight overspend.

Just a hunch.
