I don't rate Zaha that highly, though. 80mil is crazy for a player that has never been more than good. The fact remains that nobody but Everton wants him.

Nobody but everton can afford him at this moment in time in this window who he'd get into the team of. Chelsea have a ban so their out, spurs need to strengthen in other areas and probably won't be able to afford his wages so their out, United Can't drop 80m on a winger while there squad is the way it is. Arsenal are broke and city and Liverpool aren't dropping 80m on a player that's going to be sitting on the bench.

I like Zaha as a player, seemingly more than most which surprises me, and I'd have been landed to get him around the £60-65m* mark but once it gets past that it starts to look a bit like an ego signing.

* any players added to this are classed as write-offs due to wages.

Neither of these is proven to be a mistake yet

Well we can all deal in hypotheticals.

Bolasie can come back and get us into the champions league. But because it’s not prOVEN yet, he can’t be classed as a bad signing, is the same logic you’re issuing.

Meanwhile away from the land of milk an honey and dealing in action and facts. What I’ve seen so far at present is Delph is a mistake, and Mina we overpaid.

Clearly they can turn the fortune around. But we’ll see, I’m far from convinced, at present.

We used this logic when we bought all the other crocks over the last few windows, didn’t work out so well.

So you’re saying Brands shouldn’t be trusted to buy Zaha, because of previous failures?

It’s like the comparison to Bolaise, I don’t understand it.

Which two players have we offered worth £30m? Must have missed that one.

The ones we paid £28mill and £16 mill for.

If we are getting 8-10mill for Jamsey anyway, we wont be selling or valuing Cenk anything under his book price that is about 20 mill, might as well keep him as crystalising a loss like Klassen.

We’re probably about even for incomings/outgoings at present.

Can we afford an £80m net spend if we pay that on Zaha? Seems we can.

Can we afford £120m net spend if we go with a £40m centre back as well? For FFP purposes I’m not sure.

Wouldn’t we be better with a slightly cheaper winger and top centre back so we can get 2 top players rather than Zaha and a cheaper punt at centre back?

Thought it was £3m for macarthy yesterday

I find it odd that McCarthy is joining Palace considering the Zaha situation. It suggests to me that there is an understanding between the two clubs about Zaha.

But I'm buggered if I understand what it is.

I imagine the understanding is that Palace are desperate for bodies and we understand we're getting actually human currency for a hologram of the old James McCarthy.
