Too much time spent focusing on Zouma it seems

If I was Man U or Chelsea I definitely wouldn't have sold a centre back to us on deadline day (i.e. Smalling / Rojo / Tomori / Luiz) - could literally be the difference for them finishing in the top 6 or not!

I don’t believe this, they’ll have a list drawn up and feelers will be out. It’s getting people over the line by convincing other clubs to sell, valuations/replacements/budgets all come into play

United have improved their Right back and Centre back positions, but are left with Pogba who doesn’t want to be there and barely any attacking options - they’ve also lost Herrera who was one of their best players last season, so I’d argue they’ve gone backwards

Their defending was the issue and they have addressed it. AWB is a big step up from Young and Maguire is also on Jones, Smalling and Lindelloff.

No, thats not the case at all.

If you are going to judge a window right after it happens, you have to judge it on paper, how players have played and thus will be expected to play this season. Paper is unanimous on a great window(unless you want to say DCL looks set to have a better year than Kean for example). If you arent going to judge a window on paper, and instead wait for the players to play out then....you cant judge ANYTHING right now.

And you may be new to following the team, but last years squad played at a top 4 level for the last 13 games, 33% of the season, which is coincidentally exactly when you should expect a new manager and new players to finally start to have an impact on the team.

You think Gbamin is better than gana on paper then? Love to see how you came to that conclusion. And thin air better than Zouma aswell, I’m surprised by that I must say.

To call any window ‘great’ I’d say you need to be expecting a jump of at least 2 league positions, 1 would be ‘good’ but ‘great’? That means seriously propelling yourself up the league. If you think this squad is likely to finish top 6 (as in any reasonable neutral would think that way) you picked the wrong Merseyside team to tellyclap, because you’re deluded enough to be a kopite.

Actually would probably have Mangala back for emergencies.

He was very highly rated at one point in his career like. Never got the chance at us because of injury obviously but on a free as a backup cb would surely be better than Gibson

That is what we have a DoF for though.

Don't get me wrong, Brands has done a good job since he's been here but not getting a centre half over the line this window is a definite black mark on his record.

I’m happy we didn’t sign Rojo. I think young Lewis Gibson can do a job. Mina was decent in pre season. And Gbamin can play Cb. My only worry is Christmas peroid when games coming fast.

Yeah I agree, CB was a bitch.

But it’s still relevant: it’s a chain, and if one link breaks you’re goosed. I just don’t we waited all summer for Zouma

Assuming the Iwobi signing is confirmed we are a CB from a very good window. Maybe Gibson or Holgate will step up... Maybe Mina will be boss but it’s still a concern. Other than that I think we’ve done well.

I believe it. I think we’ve tried to play hardball over Zouma, all the while thinking Tomori was our second choice. Luiz’s move has pulled the rug from under us and we’ve ended up in a mad panic ringing round for a stopgap in the last 2 days.

I'm sure you're right and I don't think anyone saw the David Luiz thing coming which certainly didn't help with either Zouma or Tomori but I think we did, at some point, gamble on getting one of the Chelsea CBs and that has screwed us. Or maybe Chelsea did, it can't hurt their chances, given their transfer ban, to leave other clubs short of options. Who knows?
