Very genuine question here. What would the reaction be to signing Ben Mendy. He is still only 28 and is an excellent LB and is presumably looking for a job. Does the accusation tarnish him so much that a club can't touch him or would be be an excellent free signing? The fact that he was found not guilty makes me feel the guy deserves to continue his career without ridicule.

Would imagine if he stays in England he'll get some flack from opposition fans likewise potentially his own team mates.

In our current predicament would rather we took a punt on Greenwood - kids only 21 maybe there is potential for him to mature/turn his life around particularly now he's just recently become a dad.

Think he'll know its last chance saloon in this country as a footballer based on what has gone down in his personal life of late.

Yeah, but cases being dropped and being found not guilty are very different

My understanding is that he has now been cleared of all charges in a court of law so he can crack on. I guess it would depend upon his fitness etc.

I agree, if he is available on loan from City (I assume he is still contracted to them) or if he is available on a free, at age 28 he looks to be a potential bargain for the quality of player he is. If I heard Sky saying that Villa has signed Mendy on loan for a year I think I would be a happy fan.

Not only that but just a day after one of our players came out and said he was abused as a child.

Pretty much.
CPS can appeal but unlikely. An absolute horror show and ordeal for all involved in that case…..

He’ll probably want to get away to another country and start again. No doubt someone will offer him a way back.

Contract expired at the end of June so yeah he’s a free agent.

It's an interesting one. I'm sure there are several clubs that are itching to make a bid such as the one you proposed but having to think twice before doing so and balancing it with the likely backlash from some fans etc.

Considering the price of average and bad players Mendy on a free will be appealing to a lot of clubs I think
